This is the thread for the topic of the legality bull sh!t concerning the C4L.

It's non-profit so there's a lot of restrictions, it can't endorse candidates, there's a ton of BS.

So we need to find ways around the crucial stuff, what about having a side-kick site that the C4L would refer to concerning the endorsing, maybe fundraising, etc.

You can start your own PAC for local/state fundraising..for liberty candidates that your PAc chooses. Evidently c4L can't do it...they have another mission i guess. no need to wait on it...just form one yourself. There is what it is and how to do it. Doesn't seem to hard. The grassroots needs to get liberty candidates elected on the LoCAl level...and also state representatives. I am going to do that in my town. We can be in C4L too...nothing wrong with being in as many liberty endeavors as we can! TONES

What I'd do is make the Campaign for Liberty a PAC, abolish Ron Paul's Liberty PAC and give its quarter-million to the CFL.

I don't understand the implications here but I think you're on to something, on the same lines i was..

more educated ppl on the matter discuss

No I am not donating to a national PAC...i want to focus on my LOCAL elections...i'm quite sure Ron Paul is not going to filter that money down to my little town. All Politics is LOCAL. If the grassroots is going to take this over..we MUST start at the local level and work UP. I do not believe that C4L is going to try to compete with Ron Paul's established PAC. If everyone focused on LOCAL elections...can you imagine what would happen? This country would be FULL of liberty politicians! Tones

Good idea. Maybe ronpaulforpresident2008.com could become the kick site. It has all the news archived.

...I cant imagine the size of that server.

No first Amendment right??? I cant believe C4L cant endorse a candidate. We need to figure out how to best harness the internet for the political future. The power of the internet has yet to change the world in a political way. We set a couple records and drove a blindly amount of internet traffic to this message but only sounded like a firecracker to the political establishment and television media.

Hmmmmm.....

One of the ways I thought was what we were doing for Lawson. You gotta admit, it seems to be working when we get behind Congressmen on a national level. Think about this... How much does it cost to win?

Compare that to how much money we raised a presidential candidate. A person could literally market themselves to a nation of people and get donations from the entire country... for now.

Thats the point I see.

We need more BJ Lawsons. He could be the poster child of this movement. Think about a marketing a young doctor, that follows in Pauls footsteps... Hollywood cant write that story better.

-end rant

....also say he doesnt win....

He could run again.. in two years... right before the politics of a national election. Give us inspiration for 2012.

Perhaps they could get around the whole endorsement thing by having the members vote on endorsement. If an overwhelming majority of the users voted in favor of a candidate, whose platform has been thoroughly analyzed and presented to the users, then a blog post could be posted saying so. So, the CFL would not be endorsing the candidates, but the members (dues paying only?) would vote on candidates and the results would be conveniently organized on local/state/national levels.

Surely that would work?

That is all I want to work on personally. Stay local and everyone can take care of their own backyards instead of waiting for people "from the top" to do it for them.

Take over the local governments around the nation, change LOCAL views on how things should be ran BY showing people locally what true liberty is like LOCALLY and they will odds are vote for it nationally the next go around.

For instance, in the next local election we have 7 council positions and one mayoral position that will need candidates. At minimum, if we can get people to run for the 7 council spots (many will run unopposed I think) even if they are simply "Grassroots" members we can affect change almost immediately.

I think there are plenty of cities across the states where getting ourselves and our local grassroots friends and family INTO these local positions will be easier than we think.

We failed in the last go around locally but that was a first campaign, we can't win them all BUT we must continue fighting and producing real results locally.

Let the larger groups work on the big projects and we take care of our own cities. Then when national help is needed, we can rally our patriots for the national elections and rallies.

The cfl has a ton of potential, I just hope it stays in the hands of the grassroots versus a top down mentality but not sure if that will even be possible.

National PACs are sort of dinky because of spending limits, but for local PACs these would be big bucks. From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_action_committee

"Federal Multi-candidate PACs are limited in the amount of money they can contribute to other organizations:
  • at most $5,000 per candidate per election. Elections such as primaries, general elections and special elections are counted separately.
  • at most $15,000 per political party per year.
  • at most $5,000 per PAC per year."

Is it possible for state C4L chapters to make their own PAC to endorse and fund local liberty candidates?

Even local C4Ls can make PACs supporting local/state/federal candidates.

To the OP:

Re: endorsements, C4L cannot expressly endorse but can educate voters about issues, where candidates stand on those issues, and candidates' records, and can publish issue guides and voter guides.

Grassroots can then bring the voters home.
