Schwarzenegger Recall Gets Certified

The state has given the okay to organizers in their effort to recall the governor.

California Secretary of State Debra Bowen has certified a petition to recall Governor Schwarzenegger. That means organizers of the recall effort can start collecting signatures.

The petition claims Schwarzenegger "no longer represents the interest of the people and has betrayed the trust of the voters."

If it gets enough signatures, it could appear on the 2010 spring ballot.
Schwarzenegger's term expires in January 2011.

When someone is recalled, how come the person getting recalled gets to continue? I think they should be instantly removed once the amount of signatures is obtained.

To allow a person to continue would just give them enough rope to cause damage on their way out.

I would think the better tactic would be to recall the republican state senators who voted for the tax hikes.

California is going under anyway, they can't print money and maybe its a good thing to have them fail.

Agreed. With the current political climate in general, and the current political climate in CA, the only replacement you're going to get is someone who the majority votes in as an act of desperation to get their much-needed welfare programs. Seems that the main reasons people want him out are due to tax raises (legit reason) and the fact he's taking money away from welfare and public programs.

Think of the insanity there..."No more tax hikes! Better funding for schools!"

Oh, and of course the fact he didn't solve CA's budget problems single-handed.

And the recall is UNION backed.

The state's well-financed prison guards union, the California Correctional Peace Officers Assn., is bankrolling a recall effort against Schwarzenegger.

Schwarzenegger and the union known as CCPOA have been at odds for years, unable to agree on a new contract for the guards. Last fall, the governor invoked a rarely used provision of state law allowing him to unilaterally impose new working conditions on the union in the absence of a deal. Corcoran said the dispute has nothing to do with the recall effort, but the governor believes otherwise.

The prison guards were among the biggest political benefactors of Davis, who negotiated contracts widely perceived as favorable to the union. Schwarzenegger, a Republican, has not accepted their contributions.

CA needs less political cronyism, not more of it.

Remember, Arianna Huffington ran last time...and there's a possibility that Dianne Feinstein will run this time.

Curious to know why

As mentioned earlier, a Union (possibly more than one) was behind this.

As a Georgia resident, I'm not going to protest or interfere with the Californians' right to recall their governor, but it does seem awkward to me that this came about after the Terminator slashed some popular state expenses.

Of course, recalling him when he stood idly by while the state deficit went through the roof during his administration would have made a lot of sense.

Having said that, people get the government they deserve. If they want to recall the governor, then it might help perpetuate the failures of the welfare state system when someone gets in and totally wrecks the California economy to the point at which a complete overhaul of the system will be needed. That will leave the door wide open for true fiscal conservatives to make a hellacious comeback.

Just something to think about . . .

What we need is someone honest that will see to it the immigration laws are enforced.

It may take marching California's National Guard on Washington.

I would start by setting off the slowest marcher. By the time he could reach Washington anyone else that cared about the country should have had no trouble falling in.

Ahnold is a HORRIBLE governor, even worse than Gray Davis. He's way more socialist than anyone we've had in a while here.

So why waste time with a recall when we know whoever the new gov is will be just the same or worse? Why not recall the whole government and make California an anarcho-capitalist state where business BOOMS?

The whole reason why CA is a mess is because of government- federal, state, and local. They have destroyed this place with their thuggery. Sales tax is now 10% here in many places!!

Waste of time. I knew when Gray davis was recalled it didn't matter what, California was in trouble. Since the State turned into a blue state the people of California have voted in one bond act after another as long as it said state park, schools, environment or any other feel good program. We are talking billions every election for the last 20 years. California killed the goose that laid the golden egg. The bill is now due.
