Why would the Bush administration ask the courts and Congress to stay out of investigating those destroyed CIA tapes?

I think the hypocrisy of the administration is more important than the "why". Mr. Bush's administration has used the "if you have nothing to hide" line to justify his warrantless wiretapping program. It's time for the Bush administration to practice what he preaches. If he has nothing to hide, then he won't mind if the judicial has a look around.

I thought the government's sole purpose was to protect the rights and privacy of the citizens, not the secrecy of the government.

Jack, it's no secret why Ron Paul's poll numbers aren't higher. He's bad for business.

We all know that polls are designed for one thing: to push a particular agenda.

So the real question is, who's agenda is threatened by Ron Paul becoming "popular"?

Bad for business? I doubt that. Maybe you meant bad for corrupt business. Wall Street doesnt cheer Ron Paul because they think he is bad for business, they cheer him because he is good for it.

Why isn't he higher in the polls? There are several likely reasons.
- First, because the polls are biased towards 'likely republican voters', defined as those who voted republican last time. Many Paul supporters are independents, first time voters and formerly apathic voters.
- Second, because polls are made over the phone, to land-line phones only. Many or most Paul supporters only have cell phones.
- Third, because the polls may be biased. There have been phone polls where not all candidates were choosable or where choosing 'other candidate' after having the top 4 listed was interpreted as 'this person is not interested and should be skipped'.

"I too would like to know why Ron Paul does not rank higher in the polls. Could it be that the sampling size is too small or calls are only being made to certain areas of the country? Are unlisted phone numbers included? From what I've heard, Dr. Paul isn't even listed as a choice in some polls. He is simply assumed to be represented under "other."
We must also keep in mind that these same polling techniques had both John Kerry and Bill Clinton polling rather lowly going into the early primaries. Why should it be any surprise then that another potential winner could be as well?
Either way, the only accurate poll is that which takes place in the voting booth."

The main reason traditional polls are not representative of true support for Ron Paul is their focus on Republican primary voters from the last election. Ron Paul's support base goes way beyond that. My wife and I attended the New York Headquarters party on Saturday night to kick off the fund raiser at midnight and were amazed to see the diversity amongst the several hundred attendees. We are both life long Republicans but were guessing that 25% or less of the people there looked like they might have been registered as Republicans in the last primary. We informally polled many in the crowd and it seems our suspicions were correct. Fact is neither my wife nor I have cast a ballot in any election since 2000, so our names can be added to that majority that would not be represented in the traditional polls. Add to that the devotion we all have to this campaign, and I think the big losers in the coming primaries are going to be the polling outfits!

Dr. Ron Paul's grassroots support is a true cross section of our country and therefore will never accurately be reflected in any traditional poll. His supporters range from Republicans (such as myself) to Democrats, Libertarians, Constitutionalists, Independents and many who have never participated in the democratic process. The Ron Paul r3VOLution is off of the political map and therefore misunderstood and underestimated. This election cycle will show that the traditional methods need to be reevaluated as people with a wide range of differing opinions can be united under a honest and principled man- irregardless of party affiliation.

To answer your question, you should ponder this question: If you poll Ron Paul supporters, how many of them do you think have never participated in the political process before? You'll find out quite a lot. There are many slogans describing people's attitude towards Dr. Paul, but the slogan "Ron Paul cured my apathy" rings the truest.

He read some reasons sent in just a few minutes ago, but I missed the first couple or so. I didn't hear him read the reason about "likely" primary voters. That is the most logical to me among other scam polling.
