buying physical silver

Call me paranoid, but I prefer to purchase in person, in cash, rather than online. The less of a paper trail, the better. I just don't trust my government. I go to bordergold.com - the physical store.

nothing wrong with that.

I buy at a local coin store. If your in the Rio Grande Valley area in south Texas I HIGHLY recommend Treasure Hills Coin Trade in Harlingen, TX. I TRUST the owner.

How do you know which stores are legit or not? Would anyone happen to know a good place in Atlanta?

I don't know of any places in Atlanta, but you're better off going after the older shops. These are more likely to have a well established history and online reviews you can dig up to evaluate their business practices before buying.

I've brought from Kitco, Apmex, Northwest Territorial Mint. Of those listed, I've found Apmex has the best rates and they ship relatively quickly as well. It's very reputable and responsive. NWTM is expensive and takes a long time to receive your shipment, but they do have a nice novelty selection and they mint beautiful coins. Kitco is too far over spot for my liking but is reputable.

If you're concerned about confiscation and want to hold your gold offshore, GoldMoney would be my choice.

Simply, where do you guys buy your silver from? Looking for as close to spot as possibly and cheapest shipping.

I currently use craigslist to buy pre-1964 silver coins, but that market is pretty much dried up.

I use eBay and AOCS. I currently have a Members Mint account so that I get Silver and Copper every month (like a Silver 401K, or, a 401Ag).

I even have a referral link: http://www.membersmint.com/#freeindsun

I have also bartered for Silver through Craigslist (I got 2 dollars in Pre-1964 silver for some Magic Cards).

I really like the private mints the best for some reason. But, I also like some of the foreign .999 (The Libertad is a cool coin).

I'm not so worried about confiscation; it's being audited that I am worried about. Kitco has already been raided and is in a lot of trouble with the Provincial tax authority in Canada. Don't think it can't happen in US. Physical store and cash is the safest route IMHO.

Confiscation is a scare tactic which numismatic dealers use to prey on ignorant people to buy graded, overpriced coins. Because they make very little money on bullion (especially when prices are volatile). When you buy numismatics, keep in mind the prices are highly subjective and you may not get your money back when you try to sell.

if they are local stores you can walk in, see how long they've been in business or do a quick BBB & google search.

stores can't stay open very long if they're not honest most of the time. Compare prices too. There isn't an easy risk free way, it's business :)
