buying physical silver

Simply, where do you guys buy your silver from? Looking for as close to spot as possibly and cheapest shipping.

I currently use craigslist to buy pre-1964 silver coins, but that market is pretty much dried up.

Gainesville coins? I have used apmex in the past as well. Check out Schiff's tuteledge on how not to get screwed as well. TFMetals is a good place for general info as well. Keep stacking that Phyzz! You are ahead of 95% of the population probably.

I use ebay a lot and normally buy pre-1964 coins or 1964-1970 half dollars from there. I'm looking into buying some of the sterling silver items they have up because normally you can get those well under melt value but it looks like its more difficult that way to guarantee the purity of the silver with those items.

Best value for large orders is tulving.com (bank wire payments only; order by phone and know what you want before you call).

Small orders could be placed with one of many online dealers like providentmetals.com, gainesville.com, apmex.com, but I also like ordering from scottsdalesilver.com which mints their own rounds, ingots and bars.

Honestly though, my first preference is my local coin shop. Their prices compete closely to online dealers after you figure in S&H (assuming the purchase is large enough to avoid State sales tax).

I just made an order from Bullion Direct and I would advise avoiding them. Took forever to get my coins. I got some Canadian Maple Leafs though and they are beautiful.

Possibly. I bought the coins on their nucleo exchange and did not request delivery right away as I thought I would just keep them there, but I got paranoid. It took about 3 weeks to get the coins from the time I asked them to be shipped.

i've heard worse, but always with warning. In fact. warning isn't the right word, from all the long wait shipping I've heard, they always tell you before taking your payment that it takes many weeks to get to you, because it saves them time having to answer custoemr service calls later.

I made an order from meritfinancial.com and got the coins pretty quickly. They are the best, outside of a cheap coin shop.

Do NOT go to that website - it's a misspelling of the original - a link to a search page that imitates a coin dealer, only with a virus attack script.

Didn't know about them, wish they sold bag coins in lesser quantities.

I've used Bullion Direct a number of times and I can confirm they do take their time to deliver - but they do deliver. They are not a fraudulent service (not saying you implied they are). I've only bought from the Catalog.

Apmex in contrast charges more, but they are much faster delivery-wise and they are much better re: customer service - well, I have never needed customer service help w/ BD either; it's just that if something were to go wrong, Apmex is very easy to deal with. It pays to pay a little more for that peace of mind.

I've also used Monarch Precious Metals - no problems at all, and delivery was fairly quick.

Kitco here. With shipping and insurance, they seem to have the cheapest prices. Delivery has sometimes taken two weeks but it doesnt bother me. Your coins are guaranteed at the purchase price.

I sometimes buy from a local place. Their prices are competitive and since I pick up, I'm not paying for insurance or shipping.

Call me paranoid, but I prefer to purchase in person, in cash, rather than online. The less of a paper trail, the better. I just don't trust my government. I go to bordergold.com - the physical store.

I totally agree. It's all about patience, for people who have time. If not, the time is better spent on gathering money to get a bigger number, better deal.

But from my experience between $150-600, there isn't much difference.
