Massachusetts is becoming a pain in the neck for Mitt Romney’s team.

They got outmaneuvered last month at GOP district caucuses to elect delegates to the Republican National Convention. Supporters of Ron Paul showed up to vote, catching Romney backers unprepared. With more bodies on hand, the Paul-o-crats elected their slate of delegates to replace Romney-nominated delegate slates.

That means a significant group of Ron Paul backers will be included in the Massachusetts delegation to the Tampa convention, with voting rights in the nomination process.

Now, a Republican activist from Shrewsbury, Rob Eno, is raising questions on a GOP activist website about unusual steps being taken by state party officials to keep them on a short leash in Florida.

In what appears to be an open statement that GOP leaders don’t trust their own delegates, they are all being required to swear under oath and sign a formal pledge to support Romney on the first ballot, under pains of perjury and as a condition of continuing on as delegates.

Dear John,
Thanks for the article. You didn't mention if the delegates would legally be required to sign! Are they? Story after story I'm seeing about GOP's dirty tactics for the sake of Romney, but not on television. It seems to only be print media that is reporting some of this stuff.
Thanks.

(This is my, Duuuuh, I don't know what's going on John, I'm just a stupid voter but even I am starting to see something isn't right-esque letter to the author.)

"The people Romney led for four years, according to the poll, are not showing him much love these days. President Barack Obama is holding a 59-34 percent lead in Massachusetts.

Romney’s poll numbers are even worse in Central and Western Massachusetts, where Obama is trouncing him 63 percent to 27 percent. In the Boston-based Suffolk County area, Obama leads Romney 75 percent to 14 percent.

Statewide, Romney registered a 54 percent unfavorable opinion and a 36 percent favorable rating from 600 likely voters polled. Obama came in at 62 percent favorable and 32 percent unfavorable rating."

Electability anyone?

Wouldn't it be fun if the Massachusetts delegation nominated Ron Paul in Tampa?
:D

It's kind of funny. Romney's popularity in Mass is almost exactly what it was when he decided not to run for re-election as governor. He was at about 36% in the polls then, too. Too bad he's not basing his decision to run this time on how badly he's going to get his ass kicked in Mass. That might leave us an opening.

The Establishment will fight to the death. Oklahoma and Arizona were bad, but I don't think we've seen anything yet.

Massachusetts District 5 results are being challenged: http://www.redmassgroup.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=14715

Summary:

Ms. Leombruno, a Republican state committeeman, was chosen by the Romney campaign to be listed on a delegate/alternate slate. She lost (she was not even present for the vote). She then filed a complaint with the Mass GOP saying it didn't follow its own rules and violated state law. The person responsible for ensuring that the rules were followed is her friend, Jon Fetherston. The person in charge of the committee that will make a decision on the complaint, Ed McGrath, also lost his bid for delegate that day. None of these people objected to how they were registered during the caucus.

Now she is requesting that the committee throw out the caucus results and appoint whomever it sees fit. This, in spite of the fact that there is no actual evidence any unqualified voters participated, let alone the dozens needed to change the outcome.
