Buchanan speculates:

In return for a commitment to campaign for the ticket, Paul should demand a prime-time speaking slot at the convention and use the speech to emulate Barry Goldwater in 1960 when he admonished conservatives at the convention to "grow up," so that "we can take this party back."

Assuming the nominee is Mitt Romney, should he win in the fall and Paul has campaigned for him, Paul will not only have a friend in the White House, but be a respected figure in the party with a constituency all his own.

Most important to Paul are the issues he has campaigned on: a new transparency and accountability for the Federal Reserve, a downsizing of the American empire, and an end to U.S. interventions in foreign quarrels and wars that are none of our business.

Whether Paul goes home to Texas when his last term in Congress is over in January 2013, or whether he remains in Washington in a policy institute to advance the causes he believes in, his views will be sought out by the major media on all the issues he cares about.

Moreover, his fears of a coming collapse, manifest in his portfolio, could come to pass, making of Ron Paul a prophet in his own time."

Never thought I'd see the day.. I'm getting sick of Pat Buchanan.

i'd not take buchanan seriously.he is playing it by ear.he doesnt see the tsunami of support paul will get. first they ignored us,then laughed at us,then they fought us. now they are trying to co-opt us. not gonna happen.we are not the shallow teapartiers.
WE WILL WIN. Buchanan will eat his words. i am upset

Pat needs to wake up. We are going to do something big this year and its not going to be speaking at the convention.

How'd that work out for Goldwater? The party is obviously where it's at because they ignore people like Goldwater and Paul. This is useless and compromise from Ron would splinter his support. He stands for something and should never compromise in order to speak at the republican convention. Plus even if he did that I wouldn't vote for a republican and I'll withdrawal from the party. This is their last chance.

Pat seriously thinks all of us are doing all this so Ron can speak at the convention? Come on.

Romney has no incentive to listen to Paul once elected. He will bow to the orders of those who are really running things.

I don't get these people who refuse to see Ron Pauls record for not compromising himself, or his stedfast loyalty to his oath to protect and defend the Consitution and that he is a man of principle, not politics.

It's strange to me how many, who seem not to be able to comprehend that THIS^ is predominantly why he has the support he does and why he is gaining supporters and traction.

We can trust him to walk his talk at every turn.

If Paul were the type of politican who compromised his values and sucked up to people he vehemently disagreed with on most everything just to be heard, he would be just another coat tail grabbing politician and I doubt this site or any of us would be here supporting him.

Pat was running out of material when he suggested something so out of the scope of reality. Paul support a Romney campaign for special favors? ROFLMAO Not going to happen.

Paul has made it very clear what it would take for him to support a Republican nominee if it were not him. One of the conditions was that they would have to agree with his Foriegn Policy.

Romney is a part of the war for profit propaganda machine.

If any newbies to Paul and his message have any doubts here let me clear them up for you.

PAUL WILL NEVER SUPPORT A ROMNEY CAMPAIGN OR AGREE TO BE HIS VP

I don't think the media or establishment understand that Pauls supporters are loyal to what Paul is about ( honesty, integrity, principle, honoring his oath etc) and that if he changed that, he would loose our loyalty. If these people think they can use Paul to get us to support their Neocon pick, well that's just funny.

Ron Paul is not for sale. That's why he gets my money, active support, loyalty and vote.

.

Pat is starting to wear on my nerves. You would think someone like him would get it. NO. ONE. BUT. PAUL.

One word why Ron Paul will not run 3rd party:

Rand.
not really. he is not running to promote his son.he will not run 3rd party, because it will be too late and will cost a billion dollars to get on all 50 ballots. rand's career is besides the point. paulites arent sheep who will support the party because 4 yrs later their "leader's son " can win.we are not north koreans

Yes, it has nothing to do with Rand. Paul wanted nothing to do with it in'07- '08 either, when Rand wasnt even in Politics himself.

Paul has said many times that the rules make it next to impossible for a third party candidate to win.

He has said that his best chances have always been to stay with his party and help his party get back to it's conservative/libertarian roots.

This is the reason plain and simple.

I am not saying that is his sole reason. He is obviously trying to win the nomination and push the cause of freedom and liberty.

However, while attempting to accomplish these goals, mainly to push the cause, he will not do anything that hurts his son.

That is a natural/normal/instinctive trait.

If Ron would run as a 3rd party, it could possibly kill Rand's chances in 4 years. Ron Paul will not do that.

You guys can think what you want, but common sense tells you that this is the case.

One more thing, Ron can still win the nomination, lets not get ahead of ourselves here...

i have to counter, Ron Paul said he has no plans to run 3rd party but he is not absolute on this. It all depends on the actions of the gop in this election. Bottom line ron paul rules nothing out. Which means he has not ruled out a 3rd party. It all depends on the gop not rand.

to say Ron Paul will "not" run 3rd Party is to ignore ron paul himself!

I think that is rather harsh.

not at all. Pat is a status quo tool and should not be trusted. Pat is a backstabber and should never be trusted, not harsh at all. 1+1=2 it is a very simple concept that pat fails on. Pat cannot play dumb . Which he is trying to do. Pat is nothing more then a (billo, beck, dandero) rolled into one. In my eyes pat needs a good tar and feathering . That might wake his sleeping azz up.

Agreed. We must fight as hard as possible to win, but if we don't, it's not over yet.

You guys need to stop spreading that misconception that Paul is in this to pave a way for Rand. Thats BS and just weakening him as the media uses such false staements to say his run is insincere. STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT.

Please stick with spreading RON PAULS REASONS and not your own beleifs.

He was saying the same things about a possible 3rd party run back in '07- '08, when rand wasn't even in Politics to consider.

I have to say, "speaking" @ the prime-time spot in the Republican Convention seems very trival. Yes, it would be nice to hear Dr.Paul address everyone, but I'd like to think the campaign's lowest goal is much, much, higher than this.
