They're all sniffing around 2016, this is exactly why no one wants to be Mitt Romney's VP. He'll be stuck with Rick Santorum because at-least he's from a swing-state, he shores up the social-conservative side of the party and came in 2nd place. Romney/Santorum will lose to Obama/Biden no matter if Ron Paul runs 3rd Party or not.
paul/napolitano would be an epic third party
Do it.
The GOP Ticket is going to be Romney/Santorum, they'll battle it out until toward the bitter end and then Romney's only logical choice will be Santorum because he endorsed him in the last election, he's from a swing-state (Pennsylvania) and he'll shore up the evangelical side of the base like Palin did for McCain. Get ready for Obama/Biden 2012-16 because Romney/Santorum won't be able to beat the Obama Super PAC machine.
Rubio is the only real deal of the list, in that he's telegenic, articulate and most importantly, LATINO. The GOP elders love his ethnicity and the potential votes it entails. So brace yourself for Rubio vs. Rand after the smoke clears and the retreads are dismissed.

And that kills Rand's chances for every winning anything.
Romney/Rubio is a hundred times more likely. Rubio is a darling of the conservatives, brings along Florida, is Hispanic (good for both not looking like the 'old white male party' and to appeal to Hispanics in general), etc.
If there's a brokered convention, a party insider will win. Ron Paul would be a great third party candidate, but the American people have already shown they don't care enough to turn out to vote for him. If enough people won't turn out to win a primary, when turnout is miniscule, you won't win a general election when 120 million people vote.
May as well play out the string, rack up as many votes and delegates as possible, keep telling people the way it is and the way it ought to be, and try to wake up as many people as we can. We'll need them in 2016.
The only way the GOP would ever allow Rand to in is if he sold his soul and became a candidate we would not support anyway. I can see no downside to a Ron Paul third party run.
Couldn't Rand "play the game" so to speak and then turn on them once in office? A dangerous think to do, but that's what I would do if I was Rand. The only way the GOP would ever allow Rand to win is if he sold his soul and became a candidate we would not support anyway. I can see no downside to a Ron Paul third party run.
