If there's a brokered convention, a party insider will win. Ron Paul would be a great third party candidate, but the American people have already shown they don't care enough to turn out to vote for him. If enough people won't turn out to win a primary, when turnout is miniscule, you won't win a general election when 120 million people vote.

May as well play out the string, rack up as many votes and delegates as possible, keep telling people the way it is and the way it ought to be, and try to wake up as many people as we can. We'll need them in 2016.

Paul Ryan
John Thune
Mitch Daniels
Marco Rubio
Sarah Palin
Mike Huckabee
Bobby Jindal
Geb Bush
Chris Christie
Eric Cantor

They're all sniffing around 2016, this is exactly why no one wants to be Mitt Romney's VP. He'll be stuck with Rick Santorum because at-least he's from a swing-state, he shores up the social-conservative side of the party and came in 2nd place. Romney/Santorum will lose to Obama/Biden no matter if Ron Paul runs 3rd Party or not.

Rubio is the only real deal of the list, in that he's telegenic, articulate and most importantly, LATINO. The GOP elders love his ethnicity and the potential votes it entails. So brace yourself for Rubio vs. Rand after the smoke clears and the retreads are dismissed.

Is there a liberty candidate that could run in the Democratic Party in 2016? I knew Gravel got no attention and was basically a crank, but it was still fun seeing someone calling them on their shit.

paul/napolitano would be an epic third party

Do it.

The GOP Ticket is going to be Romney/Santorum, they'll battle it out until toward the bitter end and then Romney's only logical choice will be Santorum because he endorsed him in the last election, he's from a swing-state (Pennsylvania) and he'll shore up the evangelical side of the base like Palin did for McCain. Get ready for Obama/Biden 2012-16 because Romney/Santorum won't be able to beat the Obama Super PAC machine.

Romney/Rubio is a hundred times more likely. Rubio is a darling of the conservatives, brings along Florida, is Hispanic (good for both not looking like the 'old white male party' and to appeal to Hispanics in general), etc.

Edit: Rand Paul doesn't bring enough to the table to compete with Rubio. If Rubio wants the vice presidency and does not have a significant skeleton in his closest he will get it.

Also, a third party run would be a waste of time for Ron Paul. Even those who are extremely politically active don't know who runs for the third parties- they just aren't relevant.

Would Rand even want to run in 2016? Rubio probably would win the nomination just because of him being Hispanic. Anyways, that tally of GOP hopefuls isn't as weak as they were all clamoring for a lot those politicians to beat Mitt Romney.

Country comes before Rand as far as I'm concerned. The economic mess is at a point of no return, so Rand doesn't matter. The PEOPLE need to be taught a lesson in liberty.

I can see Bobby Jindal and Mike Huckabee catching star like power due to Jindal's youth, ethnicity, and extremely high approval ratings after landsliding his reelection in 2011; while Huckabee has his own show and has name recognition, as well as support from churches which influences voters.

Quit is not an option. Ron Paul doesn't quit. Brokered convention and then if Ron is not the nominee, then third party run. The goal isn't too piss people off or get back at the GOP for treating Ron Paul like crap, the goal is to get Ron Paul in the White House. It can still happen even if he runs third party. Never, ever, give up!

Obama is winning huge latino support right now because of the vote down of the DREAM Act, etc. and Rubio knows Romney is a sinking ship like the rest of the GOP know he is, plus, Rubio can wait until 2016 to actually run for President and win.

This.

There are not shortcuts, no magical ways to make people vote for liberty. Not enough minds were converted. We need more time, an economic collapse, and then more time.

There is a reason the strong GOP candidates didn't run this time. Obama is too likely to win, they're saving it for the easy election in 2016 which will be like the opposite of Democrats in 2008.

The only way the GOP would ever allow Rand to win is if he sold his soul and became a candidate we would not support anyway. I can see no downside to a Ron Paul third party run.

Ask Michele Bachmann how she felt trying to sell herself and not getting accepted into the club.

Couldn't Rand "play the game" so to speak and then turn on them once in office? A dangerous think to do, but that's what I would do if I was Rand.

All I know is that if the GOP doesn't nominate Paul, then the GOP doesn't deserve to win.

I mean Rand Paul is like a social-conservative but has a non-interventionist view like his father. But in 2015 he could become Governor of Kentucky when the currents Governors term is up. In 2016, he would have to choose between running for the Senate seat of his or President.
