Though there are important differences in the the flavors of UKIP and the Tea Party in the US, both groups represent a pro-market, pro-entrepreneur, deeply middle class, anti-centralized government, and anti-Establishment perspective. Both represent a reemergence of classical liberalism (with exceptions on both sides) on a large scale.

This middle class surge, empowered by the Internet, has befuddled the party Establishments on both sides of the Atlantic. They are not used to an informed and active electorate holding their feet to the fire.

But UKIP, like the Tea Party must deal with the "weird man's burdeon." Both groups, if they wish to make headway against the Establishment, and rail against systematic corruption, must keep their noses 3 times as clean as their established rivals. Farage must keep this in mind always.

Ukip has been weathering a nonstop torrent of abuse the last couple of weeks from politicians of all parties and the entire news media. It's something I'm watching with interest, as I suspect it presages the experience Rand will have starting late next year.

The encouraging bit, of course, is after being accused of 10 different flavors of racism, financial malfeasance, and hypocrisy (against the party leader for, quelle horreur, employing his wife, who was born in Germany. Apparently advocating some limit to immigration means employing any immigrants in your party is hypocritical?) Ukip has actually moved up in the polls, and is now coming in first at 31%.

Reality of the perfect candidate... An extemporaneous speaking statesman, witty, charisma, delivering the truth...

If Nigel Farage were in American politics, he would embarrass the fuck out of the establishment clowns inside the Washington DC beltway.

...if he were ever given press attention...which is as likely as RP getting it... :P

They're still growing! This is fantastic news.

UKIP's European Election campaign is on course to deliver a gigantic political earthquake according to two new polls out today.

The first from TNS-BMRB shows UKIP in first place with 36%. A ComRes poll has UKIP on 38%, an 11% lead over Labour and 20% ahead of the Conservatives.

TNS-BRMB:
UKIP: 36%
Labour: 27%
Conservatives: 18%
Liberal Democrats 10%

ComRes:
UKIP: 38%
Labour: 27%
Conservatives: 18%
Liberal Democrats: 8%

UKIP Director of Communications Patrick O'Flynn said: "These two latest polls chime with what we are picking up on the doorsteps. People are sick of the pro-Brussels political establishment and are flocking to UKIP for an alternative.

“In particular they want Britain to take back control of its borders and impose immigration controls with regard to other EU countries. And they really do not like seeing that view described as racist.

“There is no room for complacency at all and everyone at UKIP will be working flat out right up until May 22 to deliver the best possible result in the European and local elections.

“But there is no doubt that the signs are very promising for us just now and morale is extremely high. Our message to all UKIP members is to keep getting out on the campaign trail and help us make political history.”
