BREAKING: Ron Paul OFFICIAL STATEMENT on DELEGATE STRATEGY

There was no reason for Benton to add this defeatist paragraph.

Unfortunately, barring something very unforeseen, our delegate total will not be strong enough to win the nomination. Governor Romney is now within 200 delegates of securing the party’s nod. However, our delegates can still make a major impact at the National Convention and beyond.

This will turn off some people who were doing this to hope to see Paul win rather than him getting a speaking slot, have a say in the party platform (which no one follows), or something perfunctory.

PS. No One But Paul

Write-in here I come!!

Hmm. Well, Greece is on the verge of collapse, and its collapse WILL affect the global economy. There's always the RON PAUL WAS RIGHT meme...

So is everyone going to freak out now that Jesse Benton said he can't win the nomination? Are people going to refuse to believe him?

I think his concern is more that we be tractable than that we win the nomination. It was a long shot and is now longer ONLY because he sent that email. We always knew it would take a shift, such as a shift in thinking of the other candidate supporter to want to block Romney even if Romney didn't get the 1144 delegates.

At this point, I really don't care what Benton thinks, but I do want RON to know that the 'brawling' in OK was all against our guys because that Romney once Santa guy sent out an email essentially saying Ron advocates hookers and blow for all, and only they could stop him. Our guys merely insisted on the rules. Insisting on the rules made THEM vicious.

I want Ron to know that.

Because that is something the other side can make happen any time any candidate insist on fair rules, and only having campaign presence there will stop them from thinking they can get away with it. That was the one thing I thought was good about putting more into the delegate push, the AZ guys should have had a parliamentarian (although this ballot count wouldn't be taking so long if it was going all Romney's way) and the OK folks should have had people on site to deal with getting the right story out to the media.

Just my two cents.

If there have been no changes to the official campaign, why is Benton now calling himself "Chief Strategist"? What is with the title change?

I don't know, but if yesterday's email was an example of his strategy, I wonder if they are taking votes?

Well, we ARE changing the party and the nation and the world.

I agree. If you were around in 2008 you realize how far we have come. We will actually control some of the party platform this year and we are still growing faster than ever.

I was gonna double my donation, pending their "delegate strategy ". If they ain't in it to win it..... me either.

If we're not fighting for the Nomination it's hard to be excited about this. The country really can't wait another 4-12 years (If Romney wins) without real change.

Romney can't win. Fact. Too many of us know there's no difference between Obama and Romney and nobody will turn out for Romney.

see my post above. Benton I think is with Wead in looking to the next election etc. My personal view is they are throwing Ron's campaign under the bus for it, but perhaps I will mellow with time.

In other words, a brokered convention will not happen according to the Paul campaign so all we can do is make a presence at the convention...?

No one thinks Romney can win. They don't care. They just don't want RON to win. Someone they can't blackmail or buy and who sticks to principles not special interest agendas? The horror!

where did i read yesterday that ron paul scolded our convention efforts because we were a little bit aggresssive?

It's not just about this election. It's about changing policy, restoring the party, your donation and Ron Paul's fight helps do that.
It's for the future of the country for the next generation, not just the next 4 years.

Guess that will be my home made sign when the Police State have me lookin down a barrel.

I can give a rats ass about the "party" platform that as we know will be ignored by Romney. As for a speaking slot at the convention I can see it now. "Breaking News" - we have leave our live coverage of the RNC to bring you an important announcement.

Benton basically said what I have been saying for weeks yet I have been attacked by many on RPF?

Who couldn't see this coming a mile away. I know this is going to be hindsight for a lot of folks, but as many were shot down for being critical of the "in to win it" strategy I think it is important to point out that this fight for the nomination was lost when momentum dried up after the failure to win the majority in Iowa on the first "beauty contest" vote.

The campaign clearly believe it would win the "beauty contest" and squandered hoards of cash trying to win this and many other "beauty pageants". In fact, seeings as how the strong suit of the campaign was always going to be winning the later "binding" caucuses, one has to question why any money was spent at all in states like Iowa, Maine, Nevada etc..

As many realized from S.C. and Florida, the campaign flat out ignored binding primaries. Well, you see that now. Why? Because the campaign didn't believe the message was popular enough to carry those states, WITHOUT momentum from the beauty contests.

The "delegate strategy" has and always was a fall back strategy. A decision was made very early on that if Paul could not carry momentum through the non binding caucus beauty pageants, then primary states would be ignored.

I am not surprised. The campaign and by and large the grassroots have always over estimated the popularity of the message.

It is high time for this movement to grow up and realize its place in the world. The campaign is leading the way in that, finally, by admitting there is not enough support and votes to win a nomination. That is late, very late. The campaign signaled this on the night of the first beauty contest results, by excluding a major state like Florida in terms of popularity from it's "moving on", "we are winning" message.

Football is a 60 minute game. You hear all the time players and coaches talking about playing the full 60 minutes. You don't just skip quarters, skip drives, etc.. and expect to win.

Baseball is 9 innings, 27 outs. You don't get to pick which innings you will play. You don't get to sit out innings, or chose to only face an opponents bullpen.

So by choosing to stay out of Florida and other primary states with binding popular vote, we end up with the exact same, and very predictable results we have now. No chance at getting enough delegates, never was by choosing to ignore the major theme of your movement. Liberty is popular.

I am sorry. No it is not.

This is not an indictment against Ron Paul, the campaign, the grassroots, or anyone in particular. This is me swallowing the bitter pill. Many of us have been through this before. It is not the end of the world, yet. It is certainly not the end of the movement. However, if you want to push forward, you are going to have to push through the fact that liberty is NOT popular, the strategy was a losing strategy as far as being in it to win it. It was the same strategy in 2008.

This is going to have to change. If you want to see Rand Paul in office in 2016 or 2020, you need a new strategy. You need to call out the campaign for being sheepish on spending YOUR money where it counts. Where it counts is winning the popular votes. PERIOD>
