"American Idol" pop queen Kelly Clarkson has always identified with fiesty underdogs, and her support of Ron Paul seems to be no different.

On Wednesday, she took to her Twitter and Who Say accounts to write, "I love Ron Paul. I liked him a lot during the last Republican nomination and no one gave him a chance. If he wins the nomination for the Republican party in 2012 he's got my vote. Too bad he probably won't."

I think this episode shows why Aimee Allen retreated from her even bolder, high profile endorsement of Ron Paul. Just because you're a public person (from some level of show biz success) it doesn't mean you're ready to handle the heat of politics. Most celebrities spend their lives fostering the most positive, criticism-proof image of themselves possible, and aren't ready for the negative, ongoing bombardment that comes with touching on controversial issues. So I always give kudos to celebs who risk taking that hit, to stand up for something that might cost them a few ticket or record sales.

As for Kelly's weight issues, all I care about is she sure looked hot back in this video, especially in the concert shots:
