Unknown gunmen opened fire on a U.S. embassy security official on Thursday killing him in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a.
The attack comes amid mounting anti-American sentiment in Yemen and several other Muslim countries since the collapse of U.S.-allied police states controlled by autocratic leaders during a wave of uprisings also known as Islamic Awakening.
Qasim Aqlan, a Yemeni citizen, was an investigator in the regional security office of the embassy for 11 years, U.S. State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said yesterday in Washington, confirming his death.
