Breaking: Goldman Sachs covers Ted Cruz's healthcare

Source is twitter rumor from somone I kind of trust and yes he should join the exchange rather than receive a direct subsidy from the giant squid

If he joins the exchange as Senator he gets a 72% subsidy. You prefer that to him getting insurance through is wife's employer?

Yes well it got my attention tonight. Rand's amendment would force Cruz on to the exchange I think

All Senators already have to go through the exchange, but they get a 72% subsidy which Rand would eliminate.

Why Congress is (or isn't) exempt from Obamacare

The truth: Members of Congress are treated differently under Obamacare, but they're not exempt. In fact, by forcing them to purchase health insurance through publicly run exchanges, they're impacted more by that key provision than similar employees in private sector — or even in government.

But members of Congress will also be able to purchase their insurance under terms that are more favorable than other employees — in government or in business — who have access to employer-provided health care.

Yes he should join the exchange like everyone else and then return the subsidy to the US Treasury

And why can't he get insurance through his wife's employer? If Rand's wife worked and he could get insurance through her employer would you be against that? Or is this just another anti-Cruz tirade and an opportunity to bring up his wife working for GS?

By the way, not everyone has to go through the exchanges:

The exchanges are intended for uninsured people who couldn't get health insurance through their employer or qualify for Medicaid. Those who had access to health benefits meeting minimum coverage levels could still purchase insurance on the exchanges — but without a subsidy and using after-tax income.

His wife's employer makes big profits thanks to Fed largesse, low interest rates, TARP and Federal bailouts and is providing the Cruz family with a huge subsidy
