A 1989 1/10 oz. Gold American Eagle for $100 total, and two 1 oz Silver coins at $20 each. I'm a college student trying my best to catch up with sound money, do you fellas think the prices were fair?

don't sweat the small stuff

Any price lower than a wheelbarrow full of cash will seem like a steal in a couple of months.

The gold price was fair, as the fractional gold coins do carry a bit of a premium.

The silver for $ 20 an ounce might be a little high though. I won't pay over $ 17 for a silver eagle right now, or more than 10x face on 90% silver (or about $13.80 an ounce).

Still, you didn't buy a huge quantity, and if you're happy with it, that's great. :)

why are silver quarters the thing to buy and not silver nickels -- if they are both 1 troy oz?

waitt........1 troy oz? Are you thinking about those 1 troy rounds you saw on APMEX that look like old nickels? Don't worry what they look like as long as they're from a trusted dealer and 1 troy ounce.

silver nickels?

Have nickels ever been silver?

I think you mean silver DIMES.

When you use these calculators, you should put in $12-14 or more as silver spot price, as demand is reflecting that

1942 - 1945 Silver Jefferson Nickel Value (United States)

Each war nickel contains 0.0563 troy ounces of silver.
I guess that would qualify for a silver nickel.

yes, those exactly.. worth it?

yep you got a fair price. even though it's lot a lot, it's more than most people have (since the majority of americans don't own any gold and silver)... so just hang onto it, you'll be glad you bought some. keep buying more if you get more money.

I have a bunch of silve rI want to sell at $15 an ounce if anyone wants any, just PM me.

I have like 400 silver rounds and a 100 oz engelhard silver bar

I'm am looking to sell some silve rso I can have more of a gold ratio nin my precious metals holdings. I am way lop sided with silver, so if anyone wants to trade silve rfor gold, that wil work also.

those are just plain rounds, so yes, if you're buying bullion, that's not a bad price at all.

Looks like they start at 100 pieces, if you can get them for under $14 each after shipping and fees, definitely a good deal.

so those are shipping? it shows there is a slight delay in their shipping? You ordered the nickels, right?

LX I think you are confusing the silver rounds with the war nickels. As I understand Ninja pirate ordered the silver rounds that look like the old indian head nickel. Not war nickels.

War nickels dont have enough silver for an investment IMO. They might have numistatic value, but a refiner probably wouldnt want them.

Both prices quite high. Northwest mint has much closer to spot stuff available.

yeah, but their shipping takes forever - at least it says on their site.

I found that on ebay the northwest mint stuff is selling very cheaply. how come? And it doesn't appear to be selling at such a fervor.

WOW

Haven't seen this in a LONG time, yes, some people got lucky and got 10 oz northwest silver bars for under $150 shipping free. GO FOR IT. I personally like Northwest, Pan American, Sunshine, A-Mark.
