The refund is part of a class action settlement against dairy producers

You may be eligible to get your money back if you bought milk or other dairy products in the past 14 years and live in one of 15 states.

The refund is the result of a class action lawsuit against milk producers in Arizona, California, the District of Columbia, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

This lawsuit alleges that Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) and its members attempted to limit the production of raw farm milk by prematurely slaughtering more than 500,000 cows, in order to illegally increase the price of milk and other fresh milk products.

The dairy providers have paid $52 million to settle the case, and eligible U.S. citizens can benefit from this settlement.

To qualify for a cash refund of up to $70 for individuals and hundreds of dollars for organizations, you need to have bought a milk product at a grocery store or other retailer in one of the relevant states in the past 14 years. Claims must be submitted by Jan. 31, 2017 for processing. To submit a claim, visit boughtmilk.com.

Individuals may receive between $10 to $20, entities may receive between $280-$560.*

The more claims that are received, the lower each payment will be as the settlement fund is fixed. The number of claimants to date has exceeded predictions, so the expected payout is now lower than originally stated on the settlement website.

So... the government forces ranchers to destroy cattle to raise the price of milk and it's a-ok... Some farmers decide on their own accord to destroy some of their own private property to raise the price of milk and it's illegal??

im pretty sure everyone bought some milk.

I have never bought milk in those states. Nor is it my business if someone slaughters a cow they own . Nor would I ever pay to settle a suit for slaughtering my livestock . I would be more inclined to pay a bounty on lawyers and judges than I would to pay someone a penalty for slaughtering my cows .

They should never have agreed to pay . Ever .

slaughtering more than 500,000 cows

It's terrible that they had to lose their lives over this -- just to artificially prop up a price, which harms consumers too. I wish there were more goshallas in America -- Hindu farms where the cows are protected from harm and from being killed. I would gladly stop buying milk from farms that kill their cows if there was enough ahimsa milk from goshallas.
