Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev caught on Russia wiretap

CBS News
4/27/2013

Russian authorities secretly recorded a telephone conversation in 2011 in which one of the Boston bombing suspects had a conversation with his mother of a radical nature, officials confirmed to CBS News correspondent Bob Orr Saturday, days after the U.S. government finally received details about the call.

In another conversation, the mother of now-dead bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was recorded talking to someone in southern Russia who is under FBI investigation in an unrelated case, officials told The Associated Press.

The conversations are significant because, had they been revealed earlier, they might have been enough evidence for the FBI to initiate a more thorough investigation of the Tsarnaev family.

As it was, Russian authorities told the FBI only that they had concerns that Tamerlan and his mother were religious extremists. With no additional information, the FBI conducted a limited inquiry and closed the case in June 2011.

Two years later, authorities say Tamerlan and his brother, Dzhohkar, detonated two homemade bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, killing three and injuring more than 260. Tamerlan was killed in a police shootout and Dzhohkar is under arrest.

Come on, we built a whole new agency which excels at violating our civil liberties, spying on citizens and groping us or porn scanning us at airports, didn't we? What's that you say? We should have found the weak links with a real investigation not a white wash, fixed the negligence that had to be there, and put in procedures to reduce the chance of it happening again? INSTEAD of creating that horribly expensive DHS?

They knew people were training to fly but not land planes....

The underwear bomber, this...

Clearly they have too much unrelated voyerism of citizens going on to sift through the truly important data. Adding more layers doesn't cure the problems that already exist.

I vote we get rid of DHS, have agencies audit eachother (FBI can audit CIA and vice versa) then fix problems.

No thanks are necessary...

The story about the bombing suspects Uncle being involved in a CIA connected oil company, and yesterday - if true (it was on infowars), that he was married to a high ranking CIA officials daughter, and that they were previously in business dealings together with oil, is relevant here in trust this information.

The Russians seem to be awful eager to help out. If the Uncle is involved with the CIA over oil in Russia - which is notorious for crooked oil deals made with it's oligarchs, there is a motive here for the Russians to be working with our government to cover things up.

What does that word mean.

And that one.

If the Russians had monitored that alleged conversation, the NSA and whatever other super spy agencies we have would also have monitored it. It's been common knowledge that our "intelligence" agencies have long monitored all overseas communication, recording everything and having bots listen for words like "bomb" and "jihad" etc...

Of course their immigration status was never reviewed.

They were too busy training fake terrorists to actually investigate the real ones. -government-

Remind me once again what exactly the devalued dollar and trillions of debt are buying America?
