Bob Barr crew, how much of this is true?

What (politically) will Barr gain from being the LP nominee?

Politically he was a has been anyway (out of office in 2003), so he really didn't have anything to lose, did he.

He should have made a push to get back into Congress (or maybe Senate) as a Libertarian instead of seeking the "throne" -- he could have had a LOT more behind him to do that... and then (if successful) could have wielded that "wedge" with tremendous power (much as Lieberman is doing -- Libermann is a snake... but a savvy one.)

But instead... REAL pragmatism in moving the LP forward is once again lost to unrealistic political ambition.

What does he gain? Notoriety. The Spotlight (like actors... some pols egos demand the spotlight, and Barr seems to fit that typology). Plus, money & some type of in-between-election "fellowship" salaried swot-spot position from the Viguerie faction... a chance to (probably) run again in 2012 (with -- I'm sure he and his faction think -- better, possibly REAL chance to win.) The guy has never really succeeded much on his own, and needs some type of government (or foundation) paycheck.

Only pure libertarians should get the LP nomination. Also, the LP party should accept NO converts! Ever! (there's usually some kind of reference to being the measuring stick of principles that other parties are measured against ...) The LP should only be a debate society!

Here we go again trotting out this stale litany. Maybe he killed Bambi too. I'm still going to vote for him, unless Ron Paul's name is EXPLICITLY on the ballot.

It's not stale. It's reality. Nothing changes, they are a consistent reminder why not to vote for the Candy.

This is not meant to bash Barr- this is meant in all seriousness. How can you tell the difference between a politician having an awakening and a politician pandering?

When the politician leaves a party that regularly wins elections for one that doesn't, it is unlikely to be pandering.

Running for President as a Libertarians well has cost Barr donors to his PAC, as well as legal and lobbying clients. There are no offseting gains for him. If he doesn't really believe in what he's doing, then what he is doing makes no sense.
