. Founded in 1967, Evergreen was formed to be an experimental and non-traditional college. Full-time students enroll in interdisciplinary academic programs instead of classes. Programs typically offer students the opportunity to study several disciplines in a coordinated manner. Faculty write narrative evaluations of students' work in place of issuing grades.

Evergreen is unique[citation needed] in that undergraduate students select one 16 credit program for the entire quarter rather than multiple courses. Full-time programs will encompass a quarter's worth of work in everything related to that program concentration, by up to three professors. There are no "majors": students have the freedom to choose what program to enroll in each quarter for the entire duration of their undergraduate education, and are never required to follow a specific set of programs. Evergreen is on the "quarter" system, with programs lasting one, two, or three quarters. Three quarter programs are generally September through June.

At the end of the program the professor writes a one-page report ("Evaluation") about the student's activity in the class rather than a letter grade, and has an end-of-program Evaluation conference with each student. The professor also determines how many credits should be awarded to the student, and students can lose credit.

Initiative 1046 is on of two initiatives that I filed pertaining to higher education. The purpose of this initiative is to stop all funding to Evergreen State College with taxpyer money for the following reasons.

Under RCW 28B.40.100, the governor is responsible to appoint the board of trustees for The Evergreen State College and the lack of oversight by the board of trustees and the governor, along with the poor lack of judgment, have resulted in abuse of taxpayer dollars.

Taxpayers are supportive of liberal art studies; however, they will no longer tolerate that a state-funded institution hosted a porn week and has a history of bizarre behavior such as a course curriculum in ***** studies. As a result, taxpayers are of the opinion that the board of trustees and the governor use The Evergreen State College for the purpose of nurturing political support from the extreme left at the expense of taxpayer dollars.

The budget for The Evergreen State College is approximately one hundred sixteen million seven hundred eighty-two thousand dollars and the state deficit is from four to eight billion dollars, depending on who is presenting the accounting figures in Olympia. Taxpayers can no longer afford to support an institution of higher education that does not educate and train students to be responsible and productive citizens.

for the College declined by approximately 44 percent to $18 million. The state’s portion of Evergreen’s
operational funding slipped from 62 percent to 38 percent during this time period.

Oh how I wish the phone manufacturers had never put a portrait mode on the video part of their products.

Edited to add:

If a person would like to demonstrate how educated they are, all they need to do is turn that phone sideways so as to record as much of the video picture as possible. We don't really need to see the ceiling and floor as much as what's going on in the room.

Since the protests started, the professor has been holding his classes in a downtown Olympia Park. According to police, that is the only way to keep the peace at the college. Until a solution is found, this is the way Weinstein's classes will be held. But now the students want the videos taken down

The video, showing the students acting unprofessional, are feared to have an impact on future job endeavors. Yet, as previously stated, what goes on the web, stays on the web. Thousands of videos have surfaced of the protests, and thousands more will crop up.The old saying has proven to be true. "If you don't want the world to see it, don't put it on the web."

The Evergreen State College Olympia campus will remain closed and on suspended operations this evening, June 1, and tomorrow, Friday June 2, in response to a call-in threat received earlier today at the Thurston County Communications Center (TCOMM 911).

“Suspended operations” means no classes tonight or tomorrow. Evergreen staff are present to provide campus services to resident students and ensure their safety. Law enforcement is present on campus at all hours.

A determination on when to fully re-open campus will be made as soon as possible.
