im working on my BSN in nursing...im going to a seventh day Adventist school and they are making me take religion...this is very difficult for me considering i dont believe in god or the devil or heaven or hell...my teacher keeps trying to convince me that Christianity is the first religion ever etc....so today i basically learned that because i havent accepted his god into my life that im a slave to sin and that because i had my child out of wedlock that were both going to hell yadda yadda......i dont understand all this religion stuff....it sucks...im the girl in the class thats always questioning the teacher and his logic while everyone else follows his words with amen or hallelujah

i always felt religion was regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the powerful as useful.....quote by senneca and i couldnt agree more....but nonetheless i need to pass this class to keep my GPA up etc...so if i have any religion questions can i get a little help from those who follow??

thanks in advance

question one...whats a gospel?

lol. A gospel is an account of the life of Jesus. The first four books of the New Testament, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and Johh.

Why are you going to a 7th Day Adventist school if you don't believe in their religion?

it was the fastest way to get into the nsg program to further my education...so i have to take 2 religions...i have to do one that (whoopie) i get to pick...and i have to take a denominations class (whatever that is), so i chose to take the gospels which i foolishly thought it had to do with singing church songs:o

Too funny!

Well, yeah. There's gospel music, but that's a whole different deal. Good luck with your class. There are stranger parts of the Bible than the Gospels, if that's any consolation at all.

its already strange...and we havent even gotten to the gospels that he talks about...

just keep an open mind (not to wide that yer brain falls through LOL) be respectful and try to have as much fun as possible . They may be brainwashed but so are alot of other people who don't believe in anything.

That Seneca quote is one of my favorites! As a one of those damned atheists, my advice is just to enjoy the class, learn the material, think of it as broadening your horizons (e.g., "fake it till you make it"). I actually think a class on the gospels (if you're actually comparing/contrasting them) would be fascinating (because there are some quite interesting differences among them). Hopefully you'll be able to avoid any attempts at indoctrination.

I'm not a biblical scholar, but for some strange reason, I seem to know more biblical trivia than my weekly-church-going episcopalian friend (but that's not saying much). :) And I'm also fascinated by religion - in an academic sense, of course. Just holler if we can be of help! Good luck!

In Christianity, the Gospel (big G) is the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Gospel literally means the good news. The gospels are the first four books of the New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John respectively.

Just play their game and be done with it. I am a Christian myself but I don't advocate a lot of what churches propagate because they tend to want to be government... adding a lot things that are not really according to what Christ wanted or said.

It literally means God's spell.

If you were going to read any part of the Bible, then the Gospels are the good bits. All the best parts of Christianity come from those four accounts.

In the end mitt, every thread is a religion thread.

This is a cult if you aint clued in yet.

Romans 13 sums up religion well. ;) It was Hitler's favorite verse.

Show the class Jesus Camp.... ;)

Perhaps you don't believe in what they teach, but it's always useful to understand new concepts.
