We rejected having to take our shoes off at the airport and going through rape-scans and having pat downs just to get on an airplane. This story is really close to me. I live near Birmingham Alabama. In 2024 Birmingham had a record number of murders (157) that had been the worse number since the 1930. Well, the mayor made some changes. He replaced the white poice chief with a black one who made actually solving murders a priority. The murder clearance rate went from 29% in 2023 to 79% in 2025. And so far murder is down 50% from this time last year.

Birmingham homicides drop nearly 50% in first 3 months of 2025 to a low not seen in 8 years

Not only have homicides dropped, but the department’s clearance rate in killings this year is at an all-time high.
