Black THIS Out Pledge Widget... ADD to Your Web Sites!

As an international, I can legally donate to these chip-ins right? It's just the official campaign stuff that we internationals are not allowed to donate to or am I mistaken?

I can't speak for sure, but i believe you COULD support this.

We definitely need this on RPF and DailyPaul. Does anyone know who to talk to to get it on these websites?

Bump.

Can we start building a list of web sites to start approaching here?

I entered the code on a site and it didn't work.

I just got the code

<iframe width="728" height="90" src="http://www.blackthisout.com/index.php?id=7" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>

Can you provide a link?

dunsman, a few suggestions that'll add polish and help it "pop" a bit more (re: increase conversions)

Clarity:
  • Remove shadow of "PLEDGE NOW!" text within the button. Increase size 2pt
  • Increase contrast of "PLEDGE A DONATION TO RON PAUL FOR OCTOBER 19, 2011" (i.e. more white. gray on #000 has to be lighter, otherwise it doesn't stand out).
  • Increase contrast of "PLEDGES" beneath 698 (same as above)
  • Increase vertical padding between radio buttons and bottom-edge of email/zip fields (you have quite a bit of real estate beneath the radio buttons to work with)
  • Jet black (re: #000) for background = pretty intense. What about something in the #0b0b0b range that has a bit of grain (to add depth/texture)?

Conversions:
  • Button is a bit too 'oval' shaped (oval = soft, Ron Paul = firm!) - consider making it more square

  • Why is Zip Code Required!?! What could you possibly need this info for? - also, look at how much real estate the zip code field takes up - PLEASE REMOVE THIS REQUIREMENT. Think of the Ron Paul audience... zip code = tracking potential+none-of-your-business. Plus, you can get that data from their ip address anyways.
  • Change "PLEDGE A DONATION TO RON PAUL FOR OCTOBER 19, 2011" to "Ron Paul - Money Bomb - 10.19.2011" (easier to read/register dates when displayed in numeric format. Also, I don't see the word "Money Bomb" anywhere on the ad, so adding it should increase interest)

The widget should direct to the Facebook event page as well no? That already has 2500+ committed donors.

I think these are pretty good recommendations, so I'll work with them.

As for the ZIP, I should make it more clear that it's not a required field; however, we built a script for Google Map API that will plot all the pledges nationwide. It's actually finished up and ready to go, I just need to get in touch with the developer. I'm open to testing the conversion rates with Google Web Site Optimizer between having a zip/no zip. This way, we'll be able to really determine if it does in fact cause a drop.

A couple I can think of off the top of my head would be Infowars.com and prisonplanet.com (lot's of RP supporters there). Also Dr. Merkel's (sp?) site (not sure of the web address).

Well, I'm really trying to encourage the support base to STOP relying solely on Facebook for these moneybombs. IMHO, it's the single worse decision we've made this time around in regards to a broad-reaching marketing strategy for our moneybombs. Simply put, by relying on Facebook.. we have immediately disenfranchised 30% of our audience and made ourselves dependent on what that is as a marketing vehicle. While it works great as one of many branch-off strategies, a lot of people simply do not use Facebook. For those that do, the primary objective for that group should be to push them to the main web site to pledge. From here, we can start working on integrating events directly from the pledge site, so that it facilitates Facebook, not the other way around.

Every moneybomb, there is a significant amount of people who attend the Facebook events, only to be entirely forgotten about when the next moneybomb comes along. We have to go back through and spam our friends lists with invites to get them going. With that, we basically shoot ourselves in the foot. By having our Facebook pages, Twitter pages, Youtube pages, etc funneling viewers to the main site, we can get back to collecting e-mails from the pledges. With e-mail, we can communicate directly with those who have pledged and ask that they get involved in well thought-out online/offline strategies.

Think about this. When was the last time you heard something going viral on Facebook? Don't get me wrong, there are many examples of things that go viral that show up on Facebook. The dynamic of Facebook is entirely different than say "The Sneezing Panda" on Youtube or the Iranian Revolution on Twitter. Facebook is used to push the substance and to share something.. but rarely is it the host of viral content (except perhaps the games).

So, when this one ends and we move into the Veteran's Day moneybomb, we might have 20k e-mails we can send reminders to of that moneybomb. Then, we combine Black THIS Out list with Veterans Day list, and go into Tea Party moneybomb with perhaps, 50k e-mail addresses. Maybe some don't have money to pledge for this moneybomb, but might for the next. What if they are willing to donate their effort instead? Well, we should collect their e-mails as well and plug them every moneybomb to either donate or get involved in promotion.

It's all about snowball effect.

That's all arabic to me.

What web site are you trying to put it on? You have to have HTML access to the web page to enter that code. If you are using something like Wordpress or Joomla, it has HTML access built plugins or in the content editors themselves.

If you provide a link, I can help you get it working.

Agree about facebook. Email + youtube shares are how things go viral with the older crowd. Email address capture = key.

Just a quick mock to show some of the changes I mentioned:

The maps idea sounds rad actually - can the ips be captured then converted to location using either http://www.infosniper.net/ or http://ipinfodb.com/ip_locator.php?

edit: doh! forgot the pledge count in top right!

I opted against IPs, as justifying grabbing zip code was hard enough. However, the trade-off of being able to represent your ZIP code had some appeal, I thought. I'm hoping we'll be able to heat map the entire country and have zip codes boundaries go green as they get represented. As they multiply.. their color hue would change. However, as for now, we can segment state by state, and zoom in and see each and every ZIP code represented in the United States. Pretty rad I think too!

I like your example here. The grain does help give it more depth and the button probably should have bigger text.
