The widget should direct to the Facebook event page as well no? That already has 2500+ committed donors.
Well, I'm really trying to encourage the support base to STOP relying solely on Facebook for these moneybombs. IMHO, it's the single worse decision we've made this time around in regards to a broad-reaching marketing strategy for our moneybombs. Simply put, by relying on Facebook.. we have immediately disenfranchised 30% of our audience and made ourselves dependent on what that is as a marketing vehicle. While it works great as one of many branch-off strategies, a lot of people simply do not use Facebook. For those that do, the primary objective for that group should be to push them to the main web site to pledge. From here, we can start working on integrating events directly from the pledge site, so that it facilitates Facebook, not the other way around.
Every moneybomb, there is a significant amount of people who attend the Facebook events, only to be entirely forgotten about when the next moneybomb comes along. We have to go back through and spam our friends lists with invites to get them going. With that, we basically shoot ourselves in the foot. By having our Facebook pages, Twitter pages, Youtube pages, etc funneling viewers to the main site, we can get back to collecting e-mails from the pledges. With e-mail, we can communicate directly with those who have pledged and ask that they get involved in well thought-out online/offline strategies.
Think about this. When was the last time you heard something going viral on Facebook? Don't get me wrong, there are many examples of things that go viral that show up on Facebook. The dynamic of Facebook is entirely different than say "The Sneezing Panda" on Youtube or the Iranian Revolution on Twitter. Facebook is used to push the substance and to share something.. but rarely is it the host of viral content (except perhaps the games).
So, when this one ends and we move into the Veteran's Day moneybomb, we might have 20k e-mails we can send reminders to of that moneybomb. Then, we combine Black THIS Out list with Veterans Day list, and go into Tea Party moneybomb with perhaps, 50k e-mail addresses. Maybe some don't have money to pledge for this moneybomb, but might for the next. What if they are willing to donate their effort instead? Well, we should collect their e-mails as well and plug them every moneybomb to either donate or get involved in promotion.
It's all about snowball effect.
