WASHINGTON - Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Kurt Bills is touting a new poll commissioned by his campaign that shows progress closing the wide gap between him and incumbent DFL Sen. Amy Klobuchar, although the survey continues to show Klobuchar with a strong lead.

According to the poll of 500 likely voters conducted by Republican pollster Wenzel Strategies on Sept. 6, Bills draws the support of 37.8 percent of voters while 51.6 percent of those surveyed planned to vote for Klobuchar.

An independent poll in June after Bills received the Republican Party's endorsement had Bills drawing just 29 percent support compared to Klobuchar's 55 percent.

It sure would be nice to get another liberty Senator in office. I wonder if the Liberty for All PAC would consider helping him.

She pretends she is moderate, while voting party line Democrat (or worse). It's a proven strategy in Minnesota.

When your own poll that is obviously biased towards you says that you're trailing by only 14 points. You are very, very screwed, especially when, in the poll, your opponent has over 50% of the vote.

In Bills defense the grassroots sorta hung him out to dry. He needs at least 500k to mount a serious challenge, or least have a chance at creating momentum and a snowball-effect of people on the sidelines being brave enough to start dipping their toe into the pool.

He needs a LOT more than $500,000. Try at least $9 million. In 2006, both candidates spent $9 million and the Republican wasn't close: http://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary.php?id=MNS2&cycle=2006. So far, Bills hasn't even raised $500,000 yet. Only $8.5 million to go. http://www.opensecrets.org/races/summary.php?id=MNS2&cycle=2012

Maybe their money could be better spent in AZ or FL? Jeff Flake is only up by 1 point according to the latest poll and Nelson is 10% points ahead of Mack in FL. While neither of these candidates is pro-liberty (I'd call them Tea Partyish), they have money and may win. Kurt Bills may need to raise 5-6 million more to win. His campaign hasn't shown that it is able to raise any money.

In defense of the grassroots, it looks like Bills hung us out to dry:

Kurt Bills presses Republicans to back Romney, not Paul

Thank you. With that, Bills basically said that he needs the back of the mainstream GOP to win and not us. He made his choice.

@Keith and stuff: That would seemingly be a better use of funds. Especially considering that Mack has essentially walked the walk on the economic side.

No. Bills cannot beat Amy K with our votes alone. He needs our votes and mainstream to beat her multi million dollar machine. Come on guys! We need help in this battle! Bills is one of the good guys.

There are over 100 good guys running in NH alone and maybe another 100 between the other 49 states. I cannot help everyone. Bills has shown that he cannot raise a lot of money. If you want to join his campaign as a fundraiser, please do! He could use your help.

How do I get started?
