Bill Maher rants against the Constitution

oh...that reminds me..i gotta clean my toilet today. Thanks for posting that vid.

This guy sickens me - an enemy of the republic. I can't believe people take him seriously.

This reminds me of how dangerous a constitutional convention could be.

"If 90% support something, of course the legislature should do something"

Yeah, damned be the rights of the 10%!

"The Constitution -small states get disproportionate representation - founders couldn't have foreseen this vast disparity."

Um, actually, that's what they foresaw. That's why there's "the people's" house, and "the States'" Senate. One represents what the bulk of the US population wants with equal voice to each, and one represents what the State governments want with equal voice to each.

"Founder couldn't have foreseen machine guns"

Again, they foresaw this. The point of the 2nd amendment was to secure "well-regulated militias" - which were assumed to be agents of the people, NOT the state or federal govts in particular. To have "well-regulated militias", the founders would have said that they should have access to the most cutting-edge military technology to combat whatever threat they were employed to engage.

"The Constitution needs a page 1 rewite, Senate apportionment and 2nd amendment"

I agree. It needs to be taken to whatever big govt ends Maher wants. It also needs to allow for "the consent of the governed".

Applause for "50% wins"

I'm more and more scared every day. Not of the tyranny of the rulers - which I'm used to. But of the absolute Nazi-fication of the population. I feel like the mob is too far gone.

If it was just a small group of "elites" trying to pull one over on us and take absolute power, We'd have a chance through education and counter-political action.

But in this world of extreme patriotism, extreme faith in the one true god, education only further alienates the remnant, picking up a small margin of the ever-consolidating mob of statists.

This isn't going to end from our efforts. The only possible ends are (1) military defeat, like Germany, or (2) govt collapse, like the USSR.

I think we should try to push things to the USSR model. At least then we'd be able to pick up the pieces and have a plan in place for a new system, be it Constitutional Minarchism or Voluntarism, for whatever fragments come to be after the dissolution.

I am so very glad I have more hope (and not without my wearisome days too) than you do for this Republic.

I don't give a crap about "this Republic".

I only care about people, their rights to be free and prosperous.

And those are being threatened more and more, not by some top-down authoritarian bully. They are being threatened by a horizontal slave-on-slave mentality that resents that people who "don't pay their share," "don't want to play by the regulations I play by," "don't revere the flag as much as I do," or "don't think that dead soldiers were fighting for our freedom."

If you go to town-square and speak about rights, about free-trade, or about human flourishing in a free society (or "republic"), you probably won't be shackled and thrown in a cage by the authorities. You'll probably be shouted down by a bunch of people that emotionally react to your message as being an affront to their tribe. You'll probably find that your message alienates 10 times more people than it draws in.

Have hope if you find it beneficial to you. But I think that hope blinds you to the great amount of work that needs to be done to lay the foundations of what you really wish to see.

I've yet to see anyone ask him "So, you advocate mob rule?". Whould to extend that "mob rule" principle to jury trials?
BTW, Amy Holmes is sexy...oh the things I'd.....

You should give a crap about "this Republic", because it is US who make up this Republic. Don't forget that if you haven't already. I care about the same things you do, except I care about restoring this Republic.

They always get weak Conservatives, Libertarians to argue on topics such as guns. The second amendment does not say you can't own a machine; and machine guns aren't banned either. I wish folks got their shit straight.

Spot on.

I just about jumped out of my chair!!!!

He frikkin read it...out loud...Then says we don't have the right to a gun....Who the hell taught these people reading comprehention?

DID YOU NOT HEAR THE WORDS THAT WERE COMING OUT OF YOUR MOUOOOOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arms doesn't just mean rifles and guns either. I know that we know that, but they don't apparently. Clubs, knives, swords, grenades, full auto as well as semi-auto, bolt-action and pump-action rifles and shotguns as well as revolvers and hand-guns are all our right to keep and bear. But they do not wish to disclose these facts. Over time we have had our rights slowly eroded by acts of laws and policies which I do not look at as a mistake actually. I think it was part of the bigger picture planned out decades ago which we are seeing the full consequences of now. The mere allowance of such nonsense from someone regarding our 2nd Amendment is only further proof as to how far our enemies have gotten in this nation.

Yeah, damned be the rights of the 10%!

What percentage of people are homosexual? Around 10%? Maybe Maher and his fellow Stalinists would like to ban them.

Of course they spent the time arguing for a bare 50.1% majority. Not only can gay marriage be banned with that majority, they could probably bring back laws against all homosexual sex. Another win for the progressive dictators!

Power corrupts, and it also turns Marxists into Stalinists.
