Bill Cosby 'shocked' at Obama's statement

Poignant thread resurrection for the wholesomeness of The Coz

Nice job of archaeology; +rep

Since the comment hasn't he been attacked by the media?

Since this comment when hasn't he been attacked by the media?! Just like every journalist or other celebrity who hasn't marched in lockstep...

And some of his accusers! 'I didn't come forward long ago because I completely forgot it happened until my repressed memories were brought forth by news of old Susie's million dollar lawsuit...'

Bill Cosby allegations - Why now… again?

Since the comment hasn't he been attacked by the media?
Bill Cosby has often been criticized for criticizing the behavior of - or "talking down to" - young black men.

The current media narrative is that the resurgence of old rape allegations are entirely due to a comedian named Hannibal Buress who brought them up during his act on October 16, 2014.

Last night at his late night show at the Trocadero, comedian Hannibal Buress did an extended bit about Philadelphia native Bill Cosby, calling him a rapist. Cosby has been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting*multiple women, including Barbara Bowman in Philadelphia magazine. He has not, however, ever been criminally charged with rape (the legal definition of which varies by jurisdiction).

“It’s even worse because Bill Cosby has the fuckin’ smuggest old black man persona that I hate,” Buress said. “He gets on TV, ‘Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the 80s! I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom!’ Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches.”

"I guess I want to just at least make it weird for you to watch Cosby Show reruns,"
Buress says later. "I've done this bit on stage and people think I'm making it up.... when you leave here, google 'Bill Cosby rape.' That shit has more results than 'Hannibal Buress.'

Buress — who has done stand-up for years and is a regular on Comedy Central's Broad City — praised Bill Cosby: Himself in GQ, and noted how hard it is not to curse on stage. He specifically praised Cosby's bit on drugs, which is one of the funniest parts of that special.

Apparently, at the time the story above was posted (October 17), there was another video of Buress praising Cosby, but it has since been removed from youtube. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=achFxzgS0gE )

In the GQ story from May 2013, Buress had this to say about Cosby:

It's stuff that holds up. All of it is evergreen. He talks about asking somebody, "Why do you do cocaine?" "Because it intensifies your personality." Cosby says, "What if you're an asshole?" I think it's the only time he curses during the whole special. There've been times when I've had to work clean where I take the "fucks" out of a joke and see if the joke still holds up. That's a good exercise to make sure people are laughing at the actual content and not at the profanity. It definitely is tough to work clean. If I had to do an hour clean now, I don't know how I'd pull it off.

I suspect in reality, the old rape allegations were raised as a pre-emptive strike by the media. This forced Bill Cosby to keep his mouth shut over Michael Brown's behavior in Ferguson (and later, rioting), as the grand jury would soon be rendering a verdict. Buress's act was probably just an afterthought used to lend credibility to the desired narrative. The media has too much invested in "race" stories and riot coverage to allow the possibility that such a story might be diminished by a figure like Bill Cosby.
………….

Incidentally, am I the only one who recalls that Cosby co-starred in the popular series I Spy in the early/mid 60's and had at least two other Bill Cosby Shows back in the 70's? One had more of "variety" show format to it. In the other, he portrayed a high school gym teacher and coach - this one is currently being rerun on a station called "Aspire".

I doubt Ferguson had anything to do with any of this. Why not attack him preemptively during the Trayvon Martin fiasco?

Could be just that it hadn't been considered yet? Or the opportunity hadn't presented itself at the time - the way Buress's comments allowed? Or it wasn't around an election in which Democrats were seen to be losing a lot of support, including support from minorities? Who knows? I just don't find it plausible that it's all because of one show from this one comedian, who isn't even that well known… but that's the explanation the media keeps giving.

I do think that if Cosby had been asked to comment on it, he may not have gone along with the notion that it was entirely due to racism - he had said something along those lines about Trayvon Martin's death.

And he might've said something about Brown's own behavior.

I tend to agree--Bill Cosby has scolded the blacks over the years as a good and moral role model. If find it quite odd that out of nowhere these women are coming out of the woodwork. As usual, in America, simply by accusing someone of something, no trial, no jury--just trial by media, it destroys a person reputation and they simply fade to black. (No pun intended) That's what I think is happening here.

Bill Cosby has also praised black Muslims for adhering to family values unlike many other black Christians/non-Muslims. This did not sit well with either the left wingers or right wingers.

Yep- in total agreement.

The MSM and public love to do this to celebs. Even after MJ was acquitted by a jury, the child-molester stuff continued until his death.
