it's very much early days yet... Ron's money came late. I remember the debates over whether he had enough time to spend it and make an impact. As we get closer donors small and large will start opening their wallets. No need to worry.
We should start running personal attack ads against the donors themselves. Maybe that would make them a little less enthused to stick their slimy noses in the race.
Excellent idea! Donor attack ads!
I think it would certainly be helpful to inform voters that no billionaire is backing him, but maybe it'd be best if the SuperPac did that rather than Rand's campaign.
I'd also like to say I think the campaign definitely needs to setup a moneybomb themselves, one that they could somewhat control by informing their inside network of the particular date, details, etc.... to ensure it's success. Follow this up by advertising on drudge and other perceived friendly sites to make sure they get the word out. Between them and the grassroots focusing on a particular day I don't see how something along these lines couldn't generate at least 5 million dollars. Then think of the immediate media impact which could generate even more money. Even Ron's moneybombs were covered by the networks, if Rand does this then think of how much more so they'll cover it and get the word out. Come on Rand, just do it!
No. Very bad idea. Because if Rand gets the nomination, he will need their donations to beat Hillary. We should start running personal attack ads against the donors themselves. Maybe that would make them a little less enthused to stick their slimy noses in the race.
He should meet with small business councils and such to look for several donors that can contribute good money when combined. Present his plan of tax cuts, and tell that unlike other candidates, he will actually do it when elected. Focus on how it will help the economy, and their businesses. Then it's a matter off communicating that he can win the primaries and the general by focusing on his good polling. It's more time-consuming than finding one billionare that can bankroll the campaign... He already meet with all of Romneys big donors, and since none of them are giving anything, it pretty much means that all the traditional republican donors are out of the picture. Hopefully some Libertarian-leaning billionare feels the excitement and donates.
That said, having many small donors is a very good thing, since everything they contribute can go directly to the campaign. Jeb Bush can only raise very limited amounts of his big dollar support to his official campaign. (contribution limits) Most of the money goes to Super-PACs, and most of the money will be spent on TV-ads. You can't run your grassroots, staff expenditures, get-out-the-vote and digital campaigns via super-PACs, some things will need to go by the official campaign. So while the numbers will probably look loop-sided when including all the money, Rand can use his money more efficiently to compete.
If he is the last conservative standing against the Bush-style-moderates, I think he will get a lot of money from the Koch's and other conservative backers.

Wouldn't these donors prefer to donate to Hillary rather than Rand?
Mostly no, not in a presidential election against Hillary.Wouldn't these donors prefer to donate to Hillary rather than Rand?

My thoughts, too.I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet, but money will follow success.
When the field starts to dwindle, and Rand's poll numbers begin to increase (especially vs. Hillary), there will be donors.
Not every wealthy Republican donor is a defense contractor or banker. Even if there are just one or two billionaire Republicans who supported other candidates but would donate to Rand in the general, why would you want to push them away when the Clinton machine is projected to raise at the bare minimum 2 billion. If Rand gets the nomination, the RNC will be behind him, they have no choice, Priebus does not want two consecutive presidential election losses as RNC chair and Hillary is also personally hated by the GOP beyond any level of rational thinking. This should dissuade enough wealthy Republican donors not to give to Clinton.I would posit that a defense contractor or banker stands to lose far more with a President Paul than a President Clinton. And Council On Foreign Relations policy makers stand to be far more inconvenienced with a President Paul. The donors can play fake "two party" allegiances when both candidates are statist puppets, which is almost always the case. This time there is a threat that they may have only one of their horses in the big race.

What I am saying is that there is the potential for Rand to gain some wealthy backers should he get the nomination. Why would you want to in any way kill that potential when he would need the money so much more in the general against Hillary. To attack these donors right now would be very short-sighted.
I think one poster had an excellent idea in helping Rand's money problem. Going to a UFC fight could have a huge upside. These guys are fighters and not afraid to go to bat for you, literally.. Rand should go to the fight in July and reap the benefits of not only free media one month before the first debate and Iowa Straw Poll, but also getting these guys to support his campaign. Once some of these big money folks are willing to stick their necks out for Rand, just maybe other bigger money folks will follow. Come on Rand!
Good idea - Rand Paul needs to hit up the "common man" because the über-wealthy have no love for him because he threatens to piss in their cornflakes. You're out to there fat from the status quo and here comes this two-bit punk who thinks he is going to put the brakes on the gravy train of public graft. Of course you have no interest in him, save to see him flayed and burned to political ash.
