While this story is focusing on the EV angle, what's more important to understand is this: these new "rules" can not be complied with, with any existing or short future technology.

Biden Admin. Wants Rules to Push Electric Car Sales to 10X Current Levels

ALANA MASTRANGELO 9 Apr 2023

The Biden administration is reportedly planning to propose some of the most stringent automobile pollution rules in the world, which are meant to drive up sales of electric vehicles to ten times their current level so that up to 67 percent of new cars sold in the U.S. are electric vehicles by 2032.

The proposed limits on tailpipe emissions will be brought by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), with EPA administrator Michael Regan making the announcement on Wednesday in Detroit, Michigan, according to people familiar with the situation who spoke to the New York Times.

The EPA requirements are expected to ensure that electric vehicles constitute between 54 and 60 percent of all new cars sold in the United States by 2030, with that number rising to 64 to 67 percent of new car sales by 2032, the sources added.

This figure would represent a huge jump in electric cars for the United States, given that only 5.8 percent of vehicles sold last year were all-electric, the report noted. Additionally, the new rule would be the federal government’s most aggressive so-called climate regulation.

Meanwhile, the European Union has enacted rules regarding vehicle emissions that are expected to phase out the sale of new gasoline-powered vehicles entirely by 2035. Canada and Great Britain have also proposed similar rules to Europe’s.

But the new regulations will pose big challenges for automakers, as many of them are already struggling with creating electric vehicles.

While many car companies have already invested a lot into developing electric vehicles, only a few of them have committed to the intensity that the Biden administration is about to propose, the Times pointe out.

Moreover, a lot of these automakers have already had to deal with supply chain issues that have held up production of electric vehicles. Even manufacturers who appear to be very excited about creating electric models have are reportedly unsure whether consumers will buy enough of them.

For example, Breitbart News recently reported that Ford is losing billions of dollars on EVs:

Ford Motor Company says its electric vehicle (EV) unit, “Ford Model e,” is losing billions of dollars, and should be viewed as a startup company.

Model e has lost $3 billion before taxes over the last two years, and is expected to lose another $3 billion this year as the company invests in the new technology, according to a report by Associated Press.

In 2021, Ford’s Model e unit had pretax losses of $900 million. And in 2022, that number was $2.1 billion. Ford reportedly believes Model e will be profitable before taxes by late 2026, with an eight percent pretax profit margin.

“As everyone knows, EV startups lose money while they invest in capability, develop knowledge, build (sales) volume and gain (market) share,” Ford Chief Financial Officer John Lawler said.

Breitbart News will continue to report on the government and car companies’ love affair with Electric cars.

If this were to pass (which in all likelihood, it will), what you will see is a dramatic drop in the number of new car sales.

But the "nearly new" market will take off!

We were already expecting to see that in the ZEV states as they start to adopt the California CARB standards in ACCII. Used cars are not subject to the rules. So, a dealer could buy a new car from one state, drive it for a few miles into a ZEV state, and sell it as a "used" vehicle. This becomes more difficult when the Feds get involved, but the market will adapt.

This will push new car ownership out of reach for a larger portion of the population. Which, is just the way they want it.

Terminate the EPA.

If passed, will just get pushed back for years and years, because the supply and manufacturing does not exist.

I predict used ICE vehicles sales will pick up for the next few years.

I was hoping to , here in about 4 1/4 yrs to buy a three yr old or so truck ,extended cab 4x4 and that would be my last one . They would replace my 04 f150 triton 4x4 and my 2010 chevy silverado 4x4.

I know there probably isn't much chance of this, but I hope that there will be enough unsold people in Congress soon, that will end this electric vehicle complete BS. It's fine to have them as an option, but to have it forced on us is ..... too many bad words to say.

I guess this was inevitable. As soon as we allowed the EPA to set standards on tailpipe emissions, it was bound to progress to these ridiculous ends.

The most ironic part of this is that the production of an EV creates a "carbon backpack" that takes years to overcome. So if the goal was to reduce carbon emissions, this rule will do the exact opposite because we'd need to create those backpacks at an ever increasing rates. And that's just carbon. Says nothing about the material depletion, land use, water use, and human impacts of acquiring and processing these materials.

The goal isn't to help the environment. It's to control and limit our ability to travel. As far as helping the environment, electric vehicles do not. Just like the wind turbines do not. The problem is our lack of independent media any longer, because their main job was to expose government lies and overreach. And the vast majority of people will not take the time to research anything. We have become lazy sacks of crapola. I guess this is what happens when a few generations pass and people lose sight of what it took to win our liberty. It's sickening. And even if over time you work on someone until they see it, I get... well, I won't vote anymore or "there is nothing I can do about it", or I want to move out of the country.

Like I said, the country has become filled with lazy sacks of doo-doo. ugh.

Which violated the EPA vs Virginia Supreme Court ruling that says that government agencies cannot create rules not explicitly authorized by Congress. He would need congressional approval to pass this law.

That's a quaint theory, but the damage will be done anyway. This isn't a "law", this is a regulation. And because the EPA already regulates tailpipe emissions from vehicles, this is within their current scope. Sure, this will be challenged as an overreach, but the impacted companies won't be able to wait to see if the challenge is successful. They HAVE to start their capital expenditures now.

And this is all by design. The regulators know this. And they will pay no price if the challenge is eventually successful - they'll just pare down the emission requirements to fall within whatever framework the Court would find acceptable and then wait a couple of years to do it again. In the meantime, impacted companies will have already spent their dollars on economically wasteful and environmentally harmful technologies.

The companies won’t go to jail if they violate the EPA because the judges will throw out the case. The epa rules are thus unenforceable. Joe Biden is doing this as grandstanding to his base.

In two paragraphs, CaptUSA has correctly thumbnailed the entire structure and scope of the "Regulation State" that is the cause of 90 percent of our oppression.

Well done, and I owe you a rep.

Again, quaint theory. You are exactly right that the companies won't go to jail. But if their institutional investors catch wind that they're even thinking about violating these fatwas, their funding streams will dry up. You are also exactly right that Biden is grandstanding to his base. But when has that ever stopped a stupid regulation from being implemented?

Kinda like how he needs congressional approval to put troops into the fight in Ukrai—hey! wait a minute.

Then these investors are so damn DUMB! They would make a lot more money if they let the companies follow case law esp on this topic.

They have all the money they want. Remember, the Federal Reserve and other central banks give them free money to invest for these purposes. They lust for power. Money was just a means to get power. And why worry about the return on your investment when it isn't your money anyway?? It was given to you so that you could inject it into the economy (or rather a segment of the economy that increases the power of you and the people who gave you other people's money).

Companies should not do business with these people esp if they are being hindered by them.

"These people" are the ones who selected the Board members of these companies. Yep, they got a cozy little system set up.
