I ask because, after the fall of the Somali communist state, Somalia's GDP doubled in a few years. This was under a non-state order (local chiefs arbitrating disputes, no central taxation).

This was only ended after the US Gov started stirring up sectarian strife, terrorism and culminated it by bribing the Ethopian army to invade. They did this *because* Somalia was doing so fantastically well under extreme federalism. A similar 'anarchy' existed for centuries in rural Afghanistan. You had a dispute? You took it to the village elder. You didn't like the village elder, you moved to the next town.

Yes, Somalia was much better under 'anarchy' than under a State. It's silly and stupid to compare a third-world African society that just survived the collapse of a communist regime to the USA which built up vast reserves of capital under the freest economy in the western world, then 100 years ago began a slow burn through it via statist/socialist/corporatist corruption.
