No taxes? North Korea has some of the some of the most onerous taxes in the world - they just don't call them taxes.
For instance, the government confiscates 70 percent of all crops grown.
On top of that every person is forced to provide labor to the government free of charge.
On top of that they have a turnover fee "sales tax" of 15% on purchases.
On top of that there are the "electricity payments" collected by inspecting the households and tallying up each light bulb or electrical appliance.
On top of that Two percent of salary is taken for "organizational expenses"
On top of that 100 g/day confiscation of food is assessed to "stock up reserves"
Oh and that "Free education" - school administration costs are collected from the students and parents.
And try your hand at business - there is the market rental fee as well as a market management fee that must be paid.
And on and on. Far from being "no taxes", North Korea is the worlds most onerous taxer.

Troops on the border? - Well a great deal of those troops are U.S. troops and U.S.weapons all along the other side of the DMZ.

And no liberal media? (liberal in the leftist statist "progressive" sense). Well the media is 100% progressive liberal. It is controlled, owned and operated by the state. It is 100% pro socialism, pro statism, pro government, pro leftist liberal.
