NIA sent an e-mail recommending the silver mining stocks and it would cost $1000. I think that's a lot of money as I'm a small investor. Any suggestions which silver mining stocks to buy???

they wanted $1000 for silver stock recommendations? Do not buy that. You can't go wrong with the standard larger miners. SLW, HL, CDE, PAAS, SSRI. The etf GDXJ has a lot of silver exposure.

I'd add Endeavour (AMEX:EXK) and Great Panther (AMEX:GPRLF) to Cubical's list as a couple of the top small to mid-tier producers. One of the mining stock guys I follow on twitter (sez_me_man) won't stop banging on about how cheap SSRI is compared to the other majors by market cap/oz. of silver equivalent. Here's a link he tweeted that might interest you. -> http://www.goldminerpulse.com/silver-mining-valuations.php

I am in SSRI as well. I just got out of some calls I bought a couple of weeks ago. They do have a ton of silver, but it costs a lot to get that silver out of the ground. I think it was $19 per ounce this past quarter. Whereas HL actually has a negative per ounce cost. But HL is having some run ins with the epa right now. I am not sure what its all about, I don't own any at the moment.

You sure? I was thinking about getting back in it, but this was keeping me from pulling the trigger.

IMO, as silver keeps hitting highs, retail buyers will be buying all silver mining stock, including HL, and will not be looking at old EPA news on HL.

To the moon

Don't pay for advice, DYODD (do your own due diligence). Minera Andes has great management but isn't silver focussed, Aurcana is a little expensive but they are a unhedged silver miner in mexico, Impact is good but they've gone up 40% in the last month:D. Now is the time to buy the juniors with production starting or right around the corner. When things get real ho they will get bought out or be worth a shit ton and then you can sell and invest in less exciting things (the seniors, real estate, bonds ;))

Do a lot of research , try and avoid all silver producers that are not in the US or Canada , i own a stock that is a US producer USSIF , its about 72 cents a share and a producer. I would advise against buying any explorer , only producer. Also check the avg shares traded and try to buy only if it trades more than 500,000 shares a day. Its easier to get out if needed.
