Hey all,

I have been thinking about buying a new scope, and have heard a load of different things, so I wanted to get your opinion. What is the best all-around rifle scope that can be had for under $200? I am completely open to any ideas, and as far as zoom goes, 3-9 would probably be ok, but I really don't care. I am looking to target shoot medium range distances, from 50-300 yards most likely. I will either mount the scope on a .222 bolt or an 8mm Mauser.

When I doubt, I trust my Ron Paul people. I know ya'll won't lead me astray. Thanks in advance to Percicles and Guerilla.

I know this is off-topic but it's good for a laugh. Being involved in the medical field, I absolutely thought this thread was about something else.

I don't have a good solution for you. Presumably, someone who knows what he is doing would have to mount the rings and place them for your scope. IIRC Zeiss made the military scopes for Mausers.

If those ranges are fixed parameters, then for those ranges, you are likely to be better off with a 2x7 instead of a 3x9. Inside of 50yd, it's really easy to get lost even at 3x zoom.

Leupold is one of the finest brands you can get, and here is a NexTag list with several options, many right at your $200 budget ($210 seems the lowest and yet more common pricing right now)

You can step down from Leupold and pay less, but 50 to 300 yds I would definitely look more at a 2x7 than a 3x9. At 300 yds you should never need more than 7x mag (targets look like they are 45 yards away - a man-sized target will almost fill the entire scope). A mistake commonly made by people getting a scope is to step up too high on magnification and seriously degrade their ability to acquire targets.

I can't even lie, so did I. I was all ready to give a big speech about Littmann. I am disappoint.

Good luck finding that scope. :p

I have a Leapers that works pretty well for the money. It also has a really cool red/green illumination selector :)

Just got my Midway flyer in the mail today and they have their Bushnell 3200 Elite at $50 off, which puts it just under your $200 limit.

Does Bushnell have the same problem as the Simmons, where if you bump it you have to re-zero? I'm probably remembering that wrong so take it with a grain of salt. Also, the scope on my .30-06 bolty is a $40 Simmons 3x9, so it's not like I'm denigrating it either.

Haven't had a drift problem with ours. On any scope, after making adjustments, I normally rap on the turrets a few times with my Leatherman. I've had issues in the past with some drift for a few rounds after making an adjustment.

Re you Simmons, if it works then its worth the 40 bucks.
