Best Car for under 35K

Buy used -- even just two years old -- and you'll get a lot more car for your money.

35K for a car? now that is whats wrong with America right there; I dont care how inflated the currency is, good cars can be found used for 10-15K; Heck even 3K will get you wheels that will run around town. Ill even admit I bought a brand new corolla for about 16K and will run the wheels off it for 0% interest. While your friend will have twice the payment, I could go through another corolla (after I put 200K on this one)

ludicrus, Ill never own a luxury car and Im considered "upper middle class"; If I didnt drive as much as I did my next car will be a vintage 90s model with low miles for less than 3K! I love that this was posted in "economics and sound money" too. Too ironic

Is she wanted to know where she can get 1500 square feet for under 500K too?

We made a purchase today before I could even get home to read this thread haha.

There's some good advice in here! my wife has a VW Golf, not the turbo, and we love it. I myself drive a good old fashion Dodge Ram. Like it too.

This lady could afford a 100,000 car but she's been driving her 92' Camry for the last 17 years!! Has over 300,000 miles so when she makes a purchase it's for a lifetime, she'll drive it until the tires fall off. Her Camry has been excellent to her, finally the transmission needs replacing soon and it wouldn't be worth it that's why shes finally moving on.

We bought the 09 Maxima!! Damn what a sweet car. We test drove a Mercedes C Class right before the Maxima and let me tell you, the Benz we drove doesn't hold a candle to the Maxima. We turned donuts in both of them, the Maxima much better on the handling and the acceleration! It's got 300 horses under the hood! It's more pricey than the Infiniti G35 even!!

This car flys! We got a good deal too, the sticker was 35K, she got him down to 30K! Then I told him, listen if shes pays cash today will they up the warranty? ( I was playing the "this car is as much if not more than a G35, we're going to go test drive one of those next weekend" angle)He came back and said they would double the warrenty if we bought it today (he told me they hadn't sold a car all day long). So we did.

Heated seats & wheel, BOSE speakers, leather, fog lights, loaded with blue tooth and all sorts of things, no GPS though. I think we got a steal. Go test drive one to see what I mean.

It was a hurricane victim. This is the 3rd winter for it. It is a beast, nothing stops it.
I hope to rebuild the engine soon, it's a keeper.

Outside of a boat or an airplane, there is no bigger money pit into which you can throw your money than a new car or truck.

From a financial perspective, a new, financed car is a train wreck.

Buy quality used, without financing, and learn to do basic maintenance on it.

What's wrong with spoiling yourself every once in a while? If you can pay for it with ease, what's wrong with that? Are you just supposed to spend all your money on surviving???

That said, I would prefer to buy a nice 1 year old used car to maximize the value of the purchase.

Best automobile, is one that is three years old, no damage, with a high initial depreciation (Ford Taurus, Buick's). Think bigger cars, that old people like.

Both Buicks and larger Fords usualy have high initial depreciation. Yet their reliabilty, both by JD powers and CR, are usually average or above.
Whereas a used Honda or Toyota, will have a linear depreciation. No need to buy used.

I agree 100%. Also, buying the last model year of a vehicle or the last year before a makeover greatly increases your savings.

Assuming you're purchase won't put you into a shitload of debt, I'd say a fully loaded Honda Accord V6 coupe.

I would have to disagree with you there as I have purchased and 09 accord and 09 camry used for mid teens, both cars had msrps in the mid 20's.

Hehe, another one. Do tell, which commodities exchange can I purchase this domestic oil you speak of?

Obviously, you did not read (or did not comprehend) the rest of my post. I explicitly stated that I intend to make my own biodiesel fuel. It's easy to do and very cheap.

Not buying a crappy car! He's a horrible person.

Are there statistics showing that American cars are actually worse?

My Pontiacs & Chevys have been good to me...**shrugs**

Come on guys, don't be like the liberals. With their red, white & blue democrat bumper stickers on foreign cars.

What's wrong with not buying a car from a company that should be bankrupt? If it weren't for the government robbing the American people in order to prop up these failing companies, perhaps new American automakers could come in, buyout these failing companies and build profitable, desirable, long lasting cars.

Basically, our government has taken away our choice to buy longer lasting, better built vehicles from the competition. It's as if they're saying, "since you won't buy American cars, we'll just steal your money and buy them for you". If the U.S. auto makers built anything worth a shit, for a decent price, Americans and foreigners alike would buy them.

I won't directly do any further business with any U.S. company that has received stolen taxpayer money. I believe in the freedom of choice.

News flash...foreign car companies take bailouts from their governments and rob from their people too. Toyota & Hyundai are asking for help too. Just not from us.

What makes them any better?

I paid $1000 for a 1982 Toyota pickup in cherry condition with 134,000 miles and I think that's the best deal going. I take immense pleasure in driving it.

Best car for who to do what with? The best transportation appliance is not the most spirited automobile; the best sedan is not the most effective 'babe magnet'; the most reliable car is not the best investment.

Not a thing. You are spot on.

Something tells me that someone would still be making cars if everyone stopped bailing out these thieves.

I ignited "protectionist buy American" liberty fighters and the German car liberty fighters here with my thread. hah, wasn't the intention when I own a Dodge Ram, VW golf and a wire daschund even. :)

Nissan out did themselves with these new Maximas though. They are something and assembled in Tennesse for what its worth. AS far as new cars I think it's the best bang for under 35K, sporty and luxery, 4 doors. G37 is a contender too. BMW probably, some American cars are up there also. I was told the Genesis has the prolonged warrenty for a reason - cuz everyone will need it. Haven't drove one but it's a similar style to the Maxima.

Nice find on those $1 katrina orphans btw. I bought my VW golf used for not much, still gets 35 mpg.

Something I'd like to add, I'd love to have a diesel golf TDI, I think they call them VW 'rabbit' now instead of golf.

I couldn't in good faith support a friend's decision to drop 35K on a vehicle right now.

Hmm, let's see... Perhaps the fact that American citizens aren't the ones bailing them out. As it stands now, my family will be paying for cars we'll never even see or touch for generations to come because the buffoons in Detroit can't manage a successful business. I don't care what Hyundai or Toyota does on the other side of the planet. If those countries wish to debase their currencies by bailing out failure, that's their prerogative. I'm not going to pay for it.

I'm of the opinion that if you can't run a profitable business, you should go bankrupt and someone better at doing what you're doing should buy in and take over. The dolts in Washington act as if these companies went bankrupt there would be nobody to replace them. Regardless of what you may think, in America, it's not the taxpayers responsibility to pay for failing businesses. It's unconstitutional.

I will not willfully spend another dime with any company that receives U.S. government bailout money. I wouldn't buy another GM or Chrysler vehicle if they were the last two car companies on the planet. Something about the government stealing my money to keep their failing asses in business just rubs me the wrong way. Just for the record, I don't discriminate. If the U.S. government starts bailing out foreign car makers, I'll boycott those manufacturers too. Corporate socialism in any shape, form or fashion should be illegal and I won't support it.
