Sanders blasts Internet 'nonsense': 'I do not have dual citizenship with Israel'

By Mark Hensch

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) repeatedly denied during a radio interview with NPR host Diane Rehm on Wednesday that he has dual citizenship with Israel, bemoaning the "nonsense" people see on the Internet.

“Senator, you have dual citizenship with Israel,” Rehm remarked on “The Diane Rehm Show.”“Well, no, I do not have dual citizenship with Israel,” the 2016 presidential candidate responded.
“I’m an American,” he said. “I don’t know where that question came from.”
“I am an American citizen, and I have visited Israel on a couple of occasions” Sanders added. “No, I’m an American citizen, period.”
“That’s some of the nonsense that goes on in the Internet,” Sanders said. “But that is absolutely not true.”

List of Politicians with Israeli Dual Citizenship

A few classic examples can be cited here.

Jonathan Jay Pollard was an American-Israeli citizen who worked for the US government. He is well known because he stole more secrets from the U.S. than has any other spy in American history. During his interrogation Pollard said he felt compelled to put the "interests of my state" ahead of his own. Although as a U.S. Navy counter-intelligence specialist he had a top-secret security clearance, by "my state" he meant the state of Israel.

Literally tens of thousands of Americans holding U.S. passports admit they feel a primary allegiance to the state of Israel. In many instances, these Americans vote in Israeli elections, wear Israeli uniforms and fight in Israeli wars. Many are actively engaged both in the confiscation of Palestinian lands and in the Israeli political system. Three examples come to mind:

One is Rabbi Meir Kahane, who founded the militant Jewish Defense League in the U.S. in the 1960s, then emigrated to Israel where, eventually, he was elected to the Knesset. Until he was shot and killed at one of his U.S. fund-raising rallies in 1990, the Brooklyn-born rabbi shuttled between Tel Aviv and New York, where he recruited militant American Jews for his activities in Israel against Palestinians. He claimed to be a "dual citizen" of America and Israel.

Michael Mukasey

Recently appointed as US Attorney General. Mukasey also was the judge in the litigation between developer Larry Silverstein and several insurance companies arising from the destruction of the World Trade Center.
Michael Chertoff
Former Assistant Attorney General for the Criminal Division, at the Justice Department; now head of Homeland Security.

Richard Perle

One of Bush's foreign policy advisors, he is the chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board. A very likely Israeli government agent, Perle was expelled from Senator Henry Jackson's office in the 1970's after the National Security Agency (NSA) caught him passing Highly-Classified (National Security) documents to the Israeli Embassy. He later worked for the Israeli weapons firm, Soltam. Perle came from one the above mentioned pro-Israel thinktanks, the AEI. Perle is one of the leading pro-Israeli fanatics leading this Iraq war mongering within the administration and now in the media.

Paul Wolfowitz

Former Deputy Defense Secretary, and member of Perle's Defense Policy Board, in the Pentagon. Wolfowitz is a close associate of Perle, and reportedly has close ties to the Israeli military. His sister lives in Israel. Wolfowitz came from the above mentioned Jewish thinktank, JINSA. Wolfowitz was the number two leader within the administration behind this Iraq war mongering. He later was appointed head of the World Bank but resigned under pressure from World Bank members over a scandal involving his misuse of power.

Douglas Feith

Under Secretary of Defense and Policy Advisor at the Pentagon.

Lawrence (Larry) Franklin

The former Defense Intelligence Agency analyst with expertise in Iranian policy issues who worked in the office of Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Douglas Feith and reported directly to Feith's deputy, William Luti, was sentenced January 20, 2006, "to more than 12 years in prison for giving classified information to an Israeli diplomat" and members of the pro-Israel lobbying group American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Henry Kissinger

One of many Pentagon Advisors, Kissinger sits on the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board under Perle.

I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby

Vice President Dick Cheney's ex-Chief of Staff. As chief pro-Israel Jewish advisor to Cheney, it helps explains why Cheney is so gun-ho to invade Iran.
Elliott Abrams
National Security Council Advisor.

The prospects of America electing its first Jewish President

http://www.jerusalemonline.com/news...ica-electing-its-first-jewish-president-15106

There is a chance that America’s next President will be Jewish. If he is elected, what are the implications of such a historic event for Israel and the Jewish people?

After the United States elected its first African American President, it appears that there is a chance that America might elect its first Jewish President, an event which if it were to happen would be historic as so far not a single US President has not been Christian. US Senator Bernie Sanders, a Jewish American Democratic candidate for the US Presidency, is increasingly making gains in the polls. While it is too soon to determine what the election results will be and whether this historic event will indeed happen, it appears that there is a chance that Bernie Sanders will be America’s next US President.

According to the Huffington Post, at this time, Bernie Sanders is increasingly edging close to Clinton in the polls and some say that they are more or less tied. A recent University of New Hampshire poll found Bernie Sanders trailing behind Clinton by just six points. The poll states that 42 percent of the voters support Clinton while 36 percent support Sanders, with a 5.9 percent margin of error. This is a dramatic change since last May, which showed Clinton receiving 20%-51% of the vote and Sanders only getting 13%.

These results are due to a large extent because Clinton is involved in numerous sandals. These include but are not limited to the leaking of classified information and the Benghazi affair, where four American citizens including a US Ambassador were murdered in a terror attack that the Obama administration which Clinton served in blamed on a video about Muhammed rather than Islamist terror groups. Additionally, recent revelations that the Clinton Foundation accepted money from Saudi Arabia and other countries that abuse women’s rights alongside Clinton’s conduct towards a child rape victim when she defended a rapist as a lawyer at age 27 have had their toll on her popularity. As a result, American progressives that care about women’s rights, minority rights, economic inequality, the environment, and other liberal issues are increasingly shifting from Clinton to Bernie Sanders, who is a fresh face with a clean record.

In a recent interview with the Hill, Sanders proclaimed: “We’re electable. We can win this thing one on one against the Republican candidates. Every day, we are doing better and better. We started off with a disadvantage. Not a whole lot of people knew who I was. But every day, I think there are more people who know who I am and what our program is. As people here that, they are saying, yah, that is the type of program we need.”

Recent polls show that Sanders has a chance of defeating some of the Republican candidates. Quinnipac published a recent survey that found that Sanders runs as well if not better than Clinton in swing states such as Colorado, Iowa, and Virginia which due to the existence of the Electoral College system are key to win any US election. According to the survey, if Bernie Sanders ran against Jeb Bush in these three key states, the current polls show him trailing not far behind by such a large margin in Iowa and Colorado. As the elections approach, Sanders could potentially surpass Bush if he is the Republican nominee. Sanders is six points behind Bush in Colorado, four points behind Bush in Iowa, and ten points behind Bush in Virginia. If the candidate is Rubio or Walker, the Republicans would defeat Sanders by a larger margin. However, if the Republican candidate is Donald Trump, whom is now according to many the lead candidate for that party’s nomination, Sanders has an excellent chance of defeating him, as the majority of voters in Iowa, Colorado and Virginia have an unfavorable view of Trump but not of Sanders.

To the contrary, a majority of voters in Colorado and Iowa have an unfavorable view of Clinton. 50% of Virginia voters don’t like Clinton as well. “Hillary Clinton’s numbers have dropped among voters in the key swing states of Colorado, Iowa and Virginia,” Peter Brown, assistance director of the Quinnipiac University Poll, stated. “On being a strong leader, a key metric in presidential campaigns, she has dropped four to ten points depending on the state and she is barely above fifty percent in each of the three states. Against three Republicans, Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, US Senator Marco Rubio of Florida, and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, Secretary Clinton trails in six matchups and is on the down side of too-close-to-call in three.” As the FBI continues to investigate Clinton’s leak of classified information, Clinton could potentially lose even more in the polls as time goes on.

The question remains, if Sanders becomes America’s first Jewish president, what will be the implications for Israel and the Jewish people? It is important to note that Sanders has not been outspoken on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for the most part. However, despite being a progressive, he has quietly maintained a pro-Israel stance according to an article in the Forward, co-sponsoring a resolution acknowledging Israel’s 60th birthday. The Forward claimed that while he did criticize the civilian deaths in Gaza during Operation Protective Edge, he also condemned Hamas for firing rockets at civilians and blew up at anti-Israel constituents during a town hall meeting. The Forward noted that he is a standard Jewish Democrat on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, even though he has been labeled one of the most liberal members of the US Senate due to his stances on other issues. But for the most part, unless something outstanding occurs like Operation Protective Edge, Sanders tries to avoid the issue and to remain quiet on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. If he continues this policy, it might be greatly beneficial for Israel after having a US President that has placed solving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict at the center of his agenda to the detriment of all other issues.

If Sanders is elected and ends up to be a good president, his service will greatly benefit Israel and the Jewish people as it will help enhance the status of the Jewish people in America and a strong Jewish Diaspora in America is also good for Israel. However, if he makes a series of serious blunders like the Obama administration, his election could lead to an increase in anti-Semitism, just as America has seen increased occurrences of racism against African Americans in recent years following the election of an African American President who promised meaningful change with slogans of “yes we can” but has not lived up to the expectations that people had of him while failing to solve America’s grave economic crisis, the country’s dysfunctional health care system, the widespread police brutality within the US, and on top of that, he has made a series of foreign policy blunders by systematically reaching out to America’s enemies to the detriment of her allies, being weak on Iran and ISIS, being responsible for the Benghazi affair and having the NSA ease dropping scandal occur under his watch, among a series of other issues. Unfortunately, whenever persecuted minorities reach the heights of political power yet don’t end up living up to the people’s expectations, the members of this persecuted minority group often face the ramifications of this political leaders failures. Only time will tell whether Sanders will be the next US President and if elected, whether this would be good for Israel and the Jewish people. However, if he is elected, a lot will be at stake following such a historic event.

Is he eligible for it?

any Jew, from any country, can claim Israeli citizenship at any time. it must be granted by their right of return law. Cruz could Canadian and possibly Cuban, and Rubio might be able to claim Cuban citizenship. not useful now but he could do a Karzai if the Castros finally fall

Law of Return

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Law_of_Return

The Law of Return (Hebrew: חֹוק הַשְׁבוּת, ḥok ha-shvūt) is Israeli legislation, passed on 5 July 1950, that gives Jews the right of return and the right to live in Israel and to gain citizenship. In 1970, the right of entry and settlement was extended to people of Jewish ancestry, and their spouses.

Those who immigrate to Israel under the Law of Return are immediately entitled to gain citizenship in Israel.

There is something unsettling about having a person whose people make up less than 3% of the country's population being in charge, just as there was with Obama, whose group has wider representation in America. The Jews are already over-represented in congress and the senate, to speak nothing for the supreme court.

I wouldn't put it past Sanders to lie about his status with regards to Israel, but even if he is not, the views that he holds are completely out of sync with this country and should not be implemented.
