What?

During the October 11 airing of Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd asked Democrat presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT)16%
where he stands on allowing shooting victims to sue gun manufacturers. Sanders made it clear that he is opposed to holding gun store owners liable, but he believes there is room to hold manufacturers liable to some degree.

Todd’s question was based on the fact that Sanders voted for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which President George W. Bush signed into law in 2005.

Speaking on Meet the Press, Sanders acknowledged his vote for the PLCAA, then said:

That was a complicated vote and I’m willing to see changes in that provision. Here’s the reason I voted the way I voted: If you are a gun shop owner in Vermont and you sell somebody a gun and that person flips out and then kills somebody, I don’t think it’s really fair to hold that person responsible, the gun shop owner.

On the other hand, where there is a problem is there is evidence that manufacturers, gun manufacturers, do know that they’re selling a whole lot of guns in an area that really should not be buying that many guns. That many of those guns are going to other areas, probably for criminal purposes. So can we take another look at that liability issue? Yes.

So car makers that sell cars in New Orleans or Las Vegas, can be sued for drunk driving crashes.

And tens of thousands of Boobus will cheer.

Well it makes sense. If Bucky Balls can be sued for making a dangerous product, then gun manufacturers should be able to be sued too.

Guns are pretty dangerous. Way more dangerous than Bucky Balls.

pffft, zipper injuries send 1700 men to the ER every year. now that's something to talk to your lawyer about.

Good idea for invention. Penis safe zipper. Would need good marketing campaign though, make guys fear their current zippers

How about we retroactively hold Bernie Sanders accountable for the Holomodor? That would make about as much sense.

Socialists may need to be held liable for the ~100 million people murdered by socialism this past century.

This wouldn't make guns cost 2,000% more, it'd simply put manufacturer's out of business. A capital intensive manufacturing company could never survive with the amount of litigation they'd have to deal with; they'd have to buy entire law firms.

This is simply a backdoor way to bankrupt manufacturers. Can you imagine how many ambulance chasing trial attorneys going to every urban yuck-a-muck involved in a shooting and offering to sue the gun manufacturer? You'd have thousands and thousands of cases.

That's really what is going on here. +Campaign donations from the Trial Attorneys, Insurance Companies.

Sounds like a double suit. The knife company and the farmer that grew the tomato plant.

How about car companies liable for DUI deaths?

You're are definitely a loon Bernie.

No you have it all wrong, car manufactures are liable for any and all auto accidents. Alcohol company's are also liable for DUI's.

I'd like to remind all of you that Ron Paul was dinged in his grading by the NRA because he voted AGAINST the bill that would exempt manufacturers from these types of lawsuits.

Much better to hold lawyers personally liable for frivolous lawsuits.

[edit]

And politicians personally liable for frivolous legislation.
