Ben Garrison is a strong Libertarian who draws political cartoons.

He's also been the subject of a long standing viral meme which has turned him into a white Supremacist. Every time he releases a cartoon, a doctored white supremacist version is quickly made and transmitted all over the web. Unfortunately, the vandalized versions have become even more popular than the originals. A Google search of Ben Garrison will yield him wearing a Nazi uniform, racist quotes attributed to his name, and of course his doctored cartoons. Allegedly this misrepresentation has cost him job opportunities and significantly impacted his career.

But Montana-based artist Ben Garrison isn’t a violent Neo-Nazi, or even a white nationalist. He’s a polite, accomplished cartoonist, with no history of overt or covert racism. His true political leanings are libertarian, anti-elitist, and anti-globalist.

Garrison is, in fact, the victim of one the most extraordinary and longest-running smear campaigns on the internet.

This alternate Ben Garrison is known by a variety of nicknames, including:
-"Zyclon Ben"
-Ben "the Walking Holocaust" Garrison
-Ben "triple K is the Only Way" Garrison
-Ben "One Man Klan" Garrison
-Ben “Not White? Shoot On Sight” Garrison

Here are some examples of his original cartoons next to their doctored versions on the right

It's seen as ironic by people on the internet that Ben Garrison, a libertarian, is trying to use government power to sue for libel and stop people from posting edited cartoons in his name. In any case, unless the internet changes some day soon, it looks like his alter ego is here to stay

"So why did a young man take on all of these cloaks and identities? Potaka and McMahon say that if Joshua Goldberg did have an ideology, it was one based on an extreme interpretation of the idea of free speech."

Seems obvious the federal government needs to control the internet to protect our citizens from attacks like these....
I SMELL LEGISLATION COOKING.

Unnecessary. Libel and defamation are alreadly illegal. Recourse is available, no new laws are necessary.

Are you saying by putting up a fake quote and attributing it to Garrison, that DevilsAdvocate and the owners of the RPF website could be looking forward to defending themselves at a libel and defamation case?

No, only those individuals who intentionally defame the character of Ben Garrison via libel have exposed themselves to prosecution and litigation. Now it's arguable whether his post #14 may qualify as intent, but the source he cited certainly does.

The originals are interesting.

The "modified" cartoons are absolutely hysterical.

Garrison's cartoons are very effective for promoting liberty. I don't buy that this organized, devious smear campaign was some random teenaged troll's doing for one second.

I did not dig into this story, but I wonder. Sabotage is often made to look grass roots and simplistic when it actually runs deeper.

Wonder if we should ask our RPF Jewish friends ZippyJuan, PRB, TheCount, Sam I Am, SquarePusher, and MaybeMaybeNot/Oreich. They are sort of doing the same thing on RPF, making contrarian, anti-liberty posts because some in their community find Ron/Rand threatening to Israel and Jewish people.

What about it, fellas?

I think we should.
