Dr. Ben Carson is expected to officially declare his decision on whether to run for president May 4 in his hometown of Detroit.
The event at the Detroit Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts will be ticketed, though a time hasn’t been set, officials said Monday.

...

The political action committee backing Carson raised nearly $13.3 million in donations last year, according to campaign finance reports.
Carson’s presidential exploratory committee, formed in early March, brought in more than $2.1 million in its first 28 days, according to a statement by Barry Bennett, the campaign’s manager.

He will take a lot of votes from Cruz, some from Rand too.

I hope he decides not to run. He had 15 minutes of fame after the prayer breakfast, but he has been somewhat injudicious in some remarks. Dan Quayle never lived down a spelling mistake. Broad brush painting gays is infinitely worse.

That would be pretty good if he bowed out, but sad to say if he had decided not to run he probably wouldn't book a ticketed event to say so

Seems like this is going down and Ben is going to run. I see Ben taking more support from Cruz if thats the case, which is a good thing. We need MOAR social conservatives in the game, bring on Santorum and Huckabee too, wow this is going to be epic~

As long as Rand can turn out the Liberty base, get some chunks from the tea party, social cons, moderates and bring in new younger voters, he could take Iowa. NH would be cake after that.

I don't think Carson running is all that bad. He dilutes Cruz more than Rand and gives legitimacy to some of Rand's positions. I really don't think he has a chance...who was the last person nominated that didn't have a voting record?

The only 3 candidates who have a chance of winning the nomination are Jeb, Rand and Walker. Cruz and Carson won't win but they could potentially take enough votes away from Rand to cost him Iowa or New Hampshire.

The Cruz and Carson supporters are the ones Rand MUST pickup after they drop out of the race.

We must be cordial to their supporters. :)
Agreed! Agreed!

Carson joining (or not joining and supporting Rand right now) is great for us!

Rand Paul compared gay marriage to bestiality just like Ben Carson. Both were making the broader "If marriage can be defined however one wants then how are there any limits at all" point. It's really not that big of a deal unless all of the libertarians of the world are ready to burn all of the Ayn Rand books they have. (She was harder on gays than frothy). Really, I'm at a loss as to why people make such a big deal over this. Actually I'm not. It's social engineering at work.

So far Ben Carson seems to have almost exclusively staked out the social conservative crowd. Now what's going to happen when he drops and and his supporters come here an find people (not you) attacking Ben Carson for basically having the same position on gay marriage as Rand Paul? Yes Carson's position is statist and Rand's isn't, but on a personal level (at least what Rand has been saying) they are about the same.

Anyhow, at some point we have to grow up and chart our on destiny. In 2008/2012 people were like "OMG! Candidates X, Y and Z just jumped in the race! They're taking votes away from Ron Paul!" Then months later people were like "OMG! Candidates X, Y and Z just dropped out of the race! There's nobody left to take votes away from McCain/Romney!"

I hope the announcement goes something like this: "I have decided not to run and will actively support Rand Paul for President of the United States".

He does take some votes from Rand. Not good.

Cruz is already in the race and he is playing to every emotion a social conservative has, so that block might as well be split as many ways as possible.

I don't think Carson can get out of his own way regarding foot-in-mouth disease. Sadly, he's simply in the wrong career at this point. GREAT man. Stay connected to the medical community and its relationship to politics. Carson for Surgeon General 2017.

I need to do good research on Carson. I do not know anything about him except I've seen more "Carson 16" car stickers than any other.
