I think he said a few weeks ago that toady is the day he would say yes or no. From an interview last night:

UNDATED (WKRC) -- The Republican field of candidates continues to widen. Retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson is expected to make a major announcement at an event tomorrow in his hometown of Detroit. But in an exclusive interview tonight, Dr. Carson tells our National Correspondent Jeff Barnd he is in the race for the White House in 2016. “I’m willing to be part of the equation and therefore, I’m announcing my candidacy for President of the United States of America.” With that, Dr. Ben Carson is off and running. He rose from poverty in Detroit to the head of the pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.

Watching the "announcement" now on cspan replay. What in the hell is this? I tuned in to watch an announcement, not a church concert.

Here we go with another "performance art" campaign, a la Pokeman-quoting Herman Cain.

Yep, I figured this would be Herman Cain 2.0 when they began pumping this guy. He's a bit more tolerable in the sense that he isn't mocking people for being skeptical of the Federal Reserve system, but I'm sure he'll say and has probably already said plenty of stuff to justify my dismissal of his candidacy.

Please tell us exactly how Carson reminds you of Herman Cain other than race?

Seriously, if you simply have to compare him to another black republican Presidential candidate, it seems like Alan Keyes would be a closer example.

Carson was never a Chairman of the Federal Reserve, for starters...

We need to get as many Carson supporters as possible to have Rand Paul as their second choice. It would make things easier if Carson would endorse Rand after Carson drops out of the race. ;)

Well there is the whole having zero political experience thing. As Cain showed us, being smart, having "common sense" and business experience does not necessarily translate into automatically being good at leading a national movement, being a catalyst for political change, having strong negotiation and strategic foreign policy skills in a very complicated world. A lot of the problems with Cain's run will probably come to haunt Carson as well. Fiorina too, although at least she has run for office before even though she lost.

Are you really using experience to compare the two?

Carson would be my second choice, given the current GOP anticipated field.

Why? The guy supports torture, is a mixed bag on foreign policy and gun control, not to mention has a habit of foot-in-mouth comments regarding social issues.

Carson is a tool, plain and simple. If he was white, the GOP wouldn't pay him the slightest bit of attention.

Yeah there's the obvious racial comparison since the GOP has to field a black man every presidential election just on principle now. Carson's support, at least gauging by the make-up of his campaign announcement crowd and the general feel of the announcement production (very churchy), is racially based. Like Cain, Carson is more insider than he portrays. Cain served on the Fed Board. Carson served on the boards of multiple multinational corporations. Carson is just a "neurosurgeon" as much as Cain was just a "pizza CEO". Go look at his campaign manager's resume too.

Like I said, I liked his speech and he hit some good notes (though almost everyone wants to talk about the Constitution now) but I've already seen up close that much of his support outside of his "circle" is classic astroturf tactics. Someone is bankrolling him to be the flavor of the week at some point during the campaign, just like Cain was, but with the same chance of actually winning.

Not that you were asking me, but I also think of Cain when I see Carson.

Why?

Because he's never held elected office before, is quirky, and has 0% chance of winning any state.

Yes, I'm not seeing the problem. Is lack of political experience not a valid comparison? If you are thinking something along the lines of "but Federal Reserve isn't the same thing", that wasn't the point.

I never heard of Carson before, but I assume he is another stooge for the elite. Since he is being pumped up by the likes of Herman Cain, that is all I really need to know about him. Cain would never endorse anyone that wasn't a toady like himself.

Wow, you are seriously out of touch.

And when did Cain endorse him?

Everybody needs to be "nice" to Ben and his supporters. We need them to support Rand once Ben drops out of the race...
