Russia, I can guarantee you spends way way WAY more than that....but you won't hear that from them, or us. China? I think the same thing is accurate, though not nearly as much so as China.

Also, like your a-typical liberal, he seems to think that war will never happen or that it's not an issue (as he proposes is the case with China and Russia)--nothing could be further from the truth....things could blow up literally any day with Russia OR China.

also, it does nothing to solve the budget problem---instead of decreasing the budget, he just proposes putting more money towards other things, and only cutting total spending by $5 billion dollars.

so, the budget would only be cut slightly, overall, and our military would take a HUGE cut...not to mention it would further socialize (I should say "statalize") those other things.

Besides, money is printed up out of thin air to pay for 99% of this crap anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

It's a darn shame that Capitalism isn't this popular.

I think the point is that the money can be spent on other things instead of military.

And yes voluntary donations are more efficient, but how much do you actually donate per year. If you do donate a lot then good for you keep it up.

I would donate a heck of a lot more if Uncle Sam would keep his hand out of my pocket, trying to do it for me. It is hard for people to donate when they are being robbed all the time. Uncle Sam thinks it is his duty to donate for me, so I don't get a choice as to who I donate to.

first off, what I do or do not donate is not pertinent to this topic....secondly....

The government's duty is to protect use from foreign invasion, and to keep people from needlessly killing each other (and enforcing the Constitution via the courts, etc), and little more.

Personally, I like a high percentage of our budget going towards military spending...it's just such a shame that most of it is wasted on needless wars.
