John McAfee: Belize Police Arrested The Antivirus Icon And Killed His Dog

http://www.businessinsider.com/poor...-icon-and-killed-his-dog-2012-5#ixzz1uF2MTh00

A guy whose name is synonymous with antivirus software, John McAfee, had an awfully bad week. Belize police raided his home last week and killed his dog, reports Network World.

McAfee was one of the first people to design antivirus software. He launched McAfee Associates in 1989. In 2010, Intel bought the company for $7.68 billion.

The raid happened in the early morning and allegedly involved smashing down his doors, ransacking his property, and shooting his dog. Police confiscated a bunch of weapons including shotguns, handguns, rifles with scopes and ammunition. McAfee says he had permits for all of them.

In all the uproar, police reportedly handcuffed him and his 12 employees and detained them until the wee hours of the night.

McAfee moved to Belize in 2008, where he founded a biotech company company QuorumEx. He told a local TV station that he thought the raid was harassment because he refused to donate money to "the local political boss."

In 2010, Fast Company wrote a revealing interview of McAfee and his life in Belize. He had donated a $1 million patrol boat to the Belizean coast guard and claimed it was an act of philanthropy. Later he admitted that he had to bribe members of the coast guard to stop them from hassling his ferry business.

He hasn't been formally charged with anything, but it's certainly sad that his dog paid such a steep price.

McAfee sucks, but they didn't have to blame the dog. Seriously.

Good grief. Politics have become a caricature of themselves.

Eh, pretty much what they have always been...

Graft, corruption, bribery, extortion, crooked cops, crooked judges, crooked prosecutors, "officials" on the take, protected organized crime.

People just don't want to think of it happening here.

Living like a wealthy American in a third world country and expecting to not have to pay bribes out the nose, is like winning the lottery here and expecting to not have to tell the IRS.

He hasn't been charged with anything? He must of pissed some people off. Maybe they figure he is making viruses up to sell more of his anti-virus product. If he did that I would be pissed at him too.

Replace Belize with any place in the US and this story would not make me flinch. Not even a bit.

Separate and write Constitution 2.0. Whad r y'all waitin' for?

AF what's your source on these daily puppycide and police brutality stories? Or are you just googling?

I'm going to chalk this one up to "just desserts". There's no way that making one of the worst pieces of software ever created should make a man rich, in a just world.

Yep, doesn't matter whether government is; Communist, Fascist, Parliamentary, Democratic, Socilaist, Dictators, etc etc... they all shake down the creators and laborers for money/wealth.
