Becoming Led Zeppelin explores the origins of this iconic group and their meteoric rise in just one year against all the odds.

Powered by awe-inspiring, psychedelic, never-before-seen footage, performances, and music, Bernard MacMahon’s experiential cinematic odyssey explores Led Zeppelin’s creative, musical, and personal origin story. The film is told in Led Zeppelin’s own words and is the first officially sanctioned film on the group.

Saw the movie. Pretty good documentary, a lot of history of the members of the band before Led Zeppelin, and their musical influences. An old John Bonham radio interview is used for his part of the story, with new interviews from the others. Quite a few old performances that have had the audio restored to modern standards (full song played). Amazing that they had some very professional recordings from their very first gigs. And back then when they did live TV performances, they actually played live, instead of the lip-synching that became popular after that.

Caveat is that this is a documentary about the origin and beginning of the band (thus the title, "Becoming Led Zeppelin"). It ends after Led Zeppelin II, so it by no means covers their entire career or catalog. Because of the emphasis on the first album, the performances are mostly from the first album, with several songs repeated (more than once). Some songs, more towards the end of the movie they also "recreated" performances using live audio, and pairing it with video clips that do not necessarily match what you are hearing*. Kind of a common music video style.

*Similar to what they did for The Immigrant Song on the Led Zeppelin DVD set:

It's playing over in Saco Maine which is just over 50 miles away, much closer than Methuen.

I'll probably check it out tomorrow night.

Yeah, I'd say that 3 1/2 hours is too far to drive. I'd wait for streaming if that were the case. My sound (A/V) system is decent, so it would be pretty good at home.
