four sleepless nights and one pissed off wife later i think i got it!

check it out here: www.ronpaulrides.com

take her for a spin - if you notice any glitches or anything is unclear please drop me a line - note your browser / version number.

i hope to go live and start spreading this thing so people can start organizing transportation - so let me know what you think!

OUTSTANDING!!! Just what the doctor ordered. It appears to work from my end. Firefox/3.6.17 (no text problems)

TMike

thank for your words of encouragement!

it would be cool if somebody could try to sign up and embed a marker - want to make sure the process is understandable and works for first time users!

I set up an account... AT first I clicked the picture and began the process of "I got a ride" when I clicked submit it said
You are not authorised to view this resource.
You need to log in.

-- doh.:) My mistake, maybe place a flashing red "register Here First" button somewhere??

Also at the bottom left where my login name is displayed -- the red "X" for logging out is covering the Mike in TruckinMike. ------- Firefox/3.6.17

TMike

PS- And check spelling on authoriSed

EDIT: I 'll be back later this afternoon for follow-up

So I tested it out.

My thoughts are that you should pick an event. And then a map to that event comes up. Otherwise, you will have so many locations that it will make you dizzy. Also, add a Road Rally marker if you can. This is the permanent point where people would meet to carpool towards the event. We did this very effectively in Florida in 2007 for several events. The locations are about an hour apart.

An example of the markers would be for Southwest Florida:
Naples, Fort Myers, Sarasota, Tampa, Lakeland, and then to Orlando: which all would be at fixed times.

Also, an added question would be: Would you pay $30 for a round trip bus ride to this event?
That would help organizers know how many people along a given route would pay to ride a bus.

You are doing great!!! This is one of the best ideas in 2012!!!

great comments - thanks so much!

i was going the route you suggested at the beginning - but then i thought - since i know my departure address all i have to do is look at a nationwide map, zoom in on my departure city - and find someone who is heading where i want to go.

i.e. the map will look chaotic(ly cool) when first seen but then after zooming into my state/county/city it will be much easier.

also, the toolbar to the left has a search function and once the markers are color coded by event it will be easier to sort out.

my thoughts on this project is to leave it as p2p carpooling - i cannot "schedule" any buses or carpools from afar - but i can allow anybody in the world to do so.

if you have a bus or a car leaving at a specific time from a specific location you drop the marker there and fill in the description field with details and contact info.

does that all make sense???????

a good idea would be to have an input form for those looking for rides so the process can work in reverse. ...

hmmm so many complications. thanks so much for checking it out.

Stupid question here....

I assume that the information from this beta test is going to be deleted?

I'd like to test it out for you but can't help feeling like I'm signing up for something that I actually won't be able to attend.

sign - up under 123tim and i'll delete whatever you put in.

thanks for trying it out!

please give some feedback to make it more user friendly/speedy.

If they're supposed to register and login first, don't even allow people to do anything else. I shouldn't be able to see the maps unless I'm logged in already, right?
