Be nice to the new people

Lmgtfy

I suppose that means no, "Let me Google that for you".

Mind you I always apologize before hand but it still cracks me up.

Just as a note when I made the link this thread was the first link on the page. Not sure how long it will last.

There sure are a lot of disrespectful, condescending people on these boards. I never understood before when I read posts or articles talking about how some RP supporters turn off others with their attitudes. Now that I've been criticized by them for asking a question (how can RP get elected if the vast majority of Americans are apathetic and unmotivated to research candidates?) and been accused of being a troll and being ripped on for only having posts in the double digits instead of 20,000 posts, I can understand their point. Some of you are your own worst enemy, which is a shame, because it makes you an enemy of RP by offending potential supporters. I'll still vote for RP, it's not his fault these forums are populated with knuckleheads who think that everyone with less than 20 posts is a troll (yes pcosmar, I'm referring to you). Keep turning people off, you're just making it more difficult for people to raise money for their grassroots projects/chip-ins by running off potential supporters. In fact, let me go so far as to challenge the other forum members to questions whether people like pcosmar are actually the trolls themselves, trying to run people off the forums. Something to think about.

Dude..you whine in every post. Do you not understand how annoying that is? Folks figure that since they don't whine every post that whomever is doing such is trying to inject uncertainty, fear and doubt into the less staunchly grounded members here. If you were from another campaign and trying to turn off Paul supporters then your methods would suffice. Take note.

I joined these forums a little while ago and got negative rep for probably something newb I did.

Great Post.

Gave you a +rep to try to get your thingee to turn green:) However, the whining above was not a great post given his context in posting. Hopefully that changes now that he has been given the reason for the reactions he received.

i don't mind if people aren't nice sometimes, but isn't it against the principles of liberty and freedom to ban the expression of dissenting opinions?

it is against the principles of liberty and freedom to deny Josh (site owner) the right to run his website (his property) as he sees fit.

1st Amendment does not apply to private property

*and welcome!! :)

that's my point, why is he supporting the freedom candidate if he doesn't advocate for freedom of opinions?

which is the reason i didn't bring it up

Josh is extremely tolerant of dissenting viewpoints. You'd be surprised. As to why he doesn't allow a free for all? Because this site is dedicated to getting Ron Paul elected.

Mission Statement: Inspired by US Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, this site is dedicated to facilitating grassroots initiatives that aim to restore a sovereign limited constitutional Republic based on the rule of law, states' rights and individual rights. We seek to enshrine the original intent of our Founders to foster respect for private property, seek justice, provide opportunity, and to secure individual liberty for ourselves and our posterity.

We are here to restore our republican form of government to it's intended state, not to practice that form of government. Josh saying "You can't say that here", is very different from a government saying "You can't say that here". It is your right to express whatever opinion you have about me. However, if you come into my home and say something I don't like, I can kick you out. But I can't have you arrested. See the difference?

There has to be a limit on what people can say here in order to keep this place running smoothly. But it is far from stifling. You'll find all kinds of opinions (many of which Ron Paul would disagree with) here.

Against the principles of libertinism, perhaps. I think when the vast majority of us are talking about freedom and liberty, we're primarily concerned with being forced to do something, whether that's to pay taxes, follow regulations, or refrain from dancing in public space. In case of being banned from a forum, that's being denied something you have no right to (at least, I think that's what most of us believe, and a pretty reasonable position). It'd be like Walmart saying Joe Schmo isn't allowed inside the Walmart buildings because he's disruptive. We (at least, I think most of us) don't recognize a right to use someone's server - or similarly, a right to shop at Walmart.

(whoops, wrong browser window.

yes, but this public forum bears little resemblance to anyone's home

a few years ago i was visiting a website called 'the speakeasy', it was a forum for smokers rights

they would make threads citing doctors that said smoking was really good for you and caused no harm

it appeared that most of the people there were heavy smokers and anyone that didn't agree with their philosophy was banned

here on this ron paul forum i get a similar feeling, if i espouse a dissenting opinion there's immediately someone that will say it's trolling

i would suggest that addressing opposing views like mine would be good for your cause, but turning a blind eye probably doesn't help

Actually, this private forum is exactly like someone's house. A public forum is run by the public. A private forum is run by an owner.

At "the speakeasy", since it is probably also a privately run forum, they have the right to ban anyone they wish.

As a customer to this privately run forum, you are subject to all of the guidelines laid out here...
http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?22-Site-Policies-Usage-Guidelines-and-Other-Important-Information

W
hen you create an account here, you are agreeing to those guidelines, which includes the "Moderation Process".

I have been here since 2007, I can tell you that if you act like a troll, most likely you will get banned. But there are highly respected long time users on this forum who hold some seriously F'd up positions, which they have espoused and been flamed by other users for. People don't get banned for their positions. People get banned when they can't handle criticism and begin acting like trolls. Be respectful, and you'll be amazed at what you can say here. Be confrontational and ignore the forum guidelines, and you will likely get banned.

I just read quite a few of your posts. Did you ever think that you're the one that seems confrontational? With all due respect.

.... and ban the use of "FUCK" when endorsing Ron Paul

Dr. Paul supporters should ban the word "fuck" as they campaign.
I'm new and hope I don't step on toes. I work every day for Dr. Paul.

I am so very tired of seeing "fuck" in posts from Ron Paul supporters.
Even You Tube video supporting Dr. Paul and full of "fuck."
They go so far as say "Fuck Cain, Ron Paul 2012" etc. on posts.

I can't help but wonder if it's the opposition
trying to make Dr. Paul supporters look bad, but there are SO MANY
"fucks" posted, that I'm sad to admit -- it's Dr. Paul supporters saying it.
What can be done? Nothing, but it's very harmful to the cause.
