The fact is Bob Barr is just a neocon who is using the Libertarian Party to advance his political career.
The neo-cons "lites" that took over the LP and gutted the platform a while back are more than happy to support him.
While I agree in principle, I don't think completely dismissing him is the right idea.
If we're going to do anything with this movement, we're going to, for better or worse, have to comprimise some of our views in order to start a large-scale liberty-based movement.
While Barr certainly isn't perfect, he's a Ron Paul clone compared to the garbage platforms of Obama and McCain.
If the Libertarian/liberty movement is to succeed, it's not going to happen overnight and it's not going to be an immediate switch. We must take things in stride. One of the first steps in doing so would be fhaving the election day results display a record amount of independent party votes with many in the Libertarian/Constitution parties's respective camps.
Hopefully, in the instance, many of the 80%+ people that are not satisfied with our current congress will realize that there's an alternative to the two party system.
Then, at this point, it would be up to us to compromise some of our individual beliefs in order to create a party that's a major step in the right direction and could challenge the big two.
I'm not voting for Bob Barr because I think he'd be a good president. I'm voting for Bob Barr because of the greater message it would convey to our society if all of us champions of liberty would get on board and actually try to make an impact instead of quibbling about minor details.
As a side note, Wayne Allen Root is fantastic. He makes me feel much better about being in the LP camp.
