A drilling derrick can use up to 9 wire lines to reeve the "kelly block" or top drive motor. This supports the whole weight of the drill string. Look for the big yellow block, and you can see the "nine lines". As you can well imagine, to bind those 9 lines and jam that block puts you in a real predicament. Hence: "Damn, I'm in a real nine line bind here".
