Baby boomer nostalgia is already oppressive. It’s about to get so much worse.

I think that the Boomers have experienced the best era in history. I remember freedoms that I experienced growing up that will never be experienced by anyone again. I sure wouldn't trade that for what lies ahead...:(

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here and guess you are not a black person.

Maybe it was the "return to the Garden of Eden Syndrome", that inspired complacency and led us down that road to doom....We simply had it too good, for too long, and it turned us into spoiled brats who were given our way.

I grew up in the Northern US where the Jim Crow laws were non-existent and my school was integrated.
There were pockets of evil throughout the World, it wasn't without thuggery either. But you could go to school without getting shot.
You could take a man at his word and people didn't do car jackings and drive bys. Or shoot a guy in the back or kick him when he was down. Not without being ostracized.
I could go camp out in the woods with a pistol and not worry about getting shot by officer friendly. We didn't have road checks and we could travel across State lines with our second amendment rights. It's true....
A one night stand didn't pose us to any risks that a little penicillin couldn't take care of.

Much different for me than that, growing up.

We didn't legalize the slaughter of full term infants nor advocate that a newborn be placed to die on a cold steel table when it was viable either. Black or white, such practices were illegal.

I hate hearing that Ronin. I knew folks who were less fortunate than I was, and as individuals, those of us who had more, helped each other. No one starved in my middle class neighborhood, of any race. We helped through our Churches and as neighbors came to one another's aid. More so than today I think. Today, the politicians take from the haves and distribute it according to political agendas. I agree with Ayn Rand in regards to that doing more harm than good. Oh, and there was no drug war either.

And, as foolish as it seems now, I could drive around drunk as hell when ever I chose and not worry unless I had an accident or was weaving all over the road.
No seat belts and no helmets. You were free to kill yourself, but out right suicide was a crime...

I don't know about that last one...

The government was a quarter the size that it is today, and our change contained silver.

Gonorrhea isn't fatal even if it isn't treated. The clap (syphilis) and the crabs (lice) were the biggies, and all had remedies.
Today, there are resistant strains of everything we could catch and Herpes of all sorts of flavor, Hepatitis A-Z, HIV, AIDS, Bird flu......

Maybe we can get back some of those positive things that have been lost....that's one of the things that attracted me to the Libertarian movement. There is hope as long as you guys and gals are here.

I have this recurring vision of a bunch 80-90 years old Boomers sitting around the rest homes, wearing blue jeans and T-shirts and listening to 50's and 60's rock and roll. ;) :D

I'm not that old yet....but when I am, if I get there, you can be sure I will be listening to 60s and 70s rock, pop, and r&b :D

I'll take my 60s music any day over the crap that passes for "music" today.

LOL....still better than:

I had a happy middle class childhood, but wasn't allowed to be a spoiled brat. Nor were almost all of my Boomer friends.

i grew up in Seattle. It was a mixed bag of just about everything. Middle class, my dad worked 18 hour days. Had good times and bad, and down right terrifying at times...sports got me through a lot of shit, mostly pick-up games with the other guys in the neighborhood. Had a large school field to kick around in, riding my bike to the corner store to buy comics and sports cards....the terror of running from older kids who wanted to steal your bike or just beat you up...shit like that..

the good old days...meh..i have it much better now compared to then..
