Two more infants have been infected with a deadly herpes virus in the last three months after undergoing a controversial religious oral circumcision in New York City.

The latest cases bring the count to 13 infants since 2000, two of which suffered brain damage and two died from the virus which can rapidly spread throughout its body.

The ultra-Orthodox practice of metzitzah b'peh requires a practitioner to orally suck the baby's penis to 'cleanse' the open wound following its circumcision, making them susceptible to the virus.

Sarcasm aside, it's a pretty proper ritual in the Orthodox communities. The mohel is supposed to take a mouthful of wine and "cleanse" the wound.

People will have a problem with the oral aspect of this circumcision, but ignore the actual disgusting procedure of circumcision...

Sick of the little innocent dying because of outdated fucking medically-unnessecary procedures.

We went to a Mohel precisely to avoid that circumstantraint. Took 20 seconds. Would recommend. Would not recommend sucking an infant's bloody penis.

I'm all for freedom of religion and have no problem with circumcision (I'm circumcised and I'll have my sons circumcised), but if you have herpes (it's very hard not to know you have it) and you're putting your mouth on a child's open wound you should be arrested for negligence at least and aggravated battery/inflicting grievous bodily harm if it leads to a serious infection and brain damage in the infant or manslaughter if the child dies.

I can't find it HB. Could you link it? I doubt believe I have ever witnessed baby mutilation. There are some that I would like to show it to.
