If you don't like it work to get a constitutional amendment passed in your state barring the state from banning any substance. Until then, they do.

He's Catholic so it doesn't make sense that he wants Protestants to influence the government. He is saying that he wants Catholicism and his religion to run the country,

That's not what he was saying...did you even bother reading what he said?

I think most people here and Ron Paul would agree with what he was saying. He was saying that the 1st Amendment has been twisted to preclude all religious speech in a public setting, when the original intent was to protect free speech and the exercise of religion. Read the 1st Amendment, exactly what it says is what it means. It does not ban public prayer, public displays of religion and things of that sorts.

I don’t believe in an America where the separation between church and state is absolute. The idea that the church can have no influence or no involvement in the operation of the state is absolutely antithetical to the objectives and visions of our country.

But read the entire thing he said, it's clear he's not talking about religious organizations being involved in government, but that the 1st amendment has been so twisted that it effectively bans any mention and exercise of religion in public institutions such as prayer in school or the display of the 10 commandments in government buildings.

It has nothing to do with the Catholic Church seizing control of the federal government. Santorum is as loyal to the Catholic Church as he is to the Constitution.

Of course Santorum doesn't believe in the separation of church and state. He's a Theist. He wants religion-based governance. He wants to use the force of government to enforce his version of morality on the world.

In the time since the US was founded, the separation of church and state is one of the main things that has kept the religious from killing each other (you only have to look at the history of Christianity to see its natural tendencies toward intolerance and violence). Either he doesn't understand that, or he wants to encourage it. Either answer makes him extremely dangerous.
