Austin Campaign Dominated by 9/11 Truthers

I've recently come around to the logical conclusion that Ron Paul is the best candidate for president... but I've been turned off from getting with the other supporters here in Austin, as all the meetup's take place at the 9/11 truther head quarters here.... like Brave New Books on the Drag.

Should I start my own Ron Paul meetup here?

Does anyone know of a meetup group that is disassociated with the 9/11 truth movement? I find 9/11 conspiracies to be preposterous, just as my candidate does. But these people seem to be obsessed with a conspiracy to EXPOSE the conspiracy, and other crazy nonsense that I Don't think is going to bode well for the campaign here.

Anyway... i'd really like to know who else there is here in Austin promoting Ron Paul who doesn't believe 9/11 was an inside job.

If you start a non-truther meetup I will join it. I avoided joining meet up because of that. I'm in Austin too. But got turned off by a few things I saw on meetup.com and have just been working solo.

In some areas people have formed new meetups when they wanted to be separate from the truthers or disruptive meetup organizers. You could try looking for other nearby non-truther groups or you could try starting a topic on the meetup message board to see if anyone else in the group is interested in forming a new group without the truthers. Maybe a few people could chip in to help pay for the new group.

Brave New Books has plenty of non-911 books, but it does have a lot of literature on the 911 lie.

You can contact the meetup coordinators and they can help you find a way to contribute without going to BNB (which imo is the greatest bookstore ever). They can provide you with names and addresses for handwritten letters, precinct maps with addresses, and so forth. You will be hearing about 911 truth for the rest of your life until the truth is revealed, so I would find a way to coexist.

Hello to you Austin folks - I'm down the road from you, in the Brenham area. :)

the troothers need to leave their conspiracy theorist out of RP campaigning, its like having meet ups at a church etc.

Start your own meetup group that way you can select who you want to associate with. Austin is the turher capital of the world if you haven't noticed.

Well I think you're an idiot then. I will be pissed off for as long as I have to hear 9/11 truth garbage.

That's with all due respect! :D

Anyway, yeah I have noticed Austin is insane with it's 9/11 truth bullshit. It's because of Alex Jones no doubt. He's everywhere.

I'll email you fortite... or you could message me, whatever. Either way we should get together.

Troothers and a lack of discretion seem to go hand in hand. It would be fine to have Troothers in all our groups if they could hold their tongue when discussing the campaign and when dealing with the general public.

I am also a non-truther RP supporter in Austin, but I guess that I don't mind hanging with truthers once in a while as it seems comes with the territory hereabouts. Still you have some other choices here:

Contact the Ron Paul HQ up on 183 and ask them about non-truther oriented activities.

Go to a Libertarian Party Meetup or other function as we are all big RP fans these days.

See if the local Republican Liberty Caucus is doing anything these days.

Find a web-based project to work with. (For example, see the Project Help Wanted section for info about my own LibertyCongress.org project.)

Get involved with someone's letter writing or phone calling project.

Get involved with a Republican or Libertarian Party candidate's campaign (but choose wisely!)

See if you can find a non-political passion where you can mix in some advocacy. For instance, I have a friend who does Ron Paul and related advocacy in a booth at the local gun shows.

There are bunch of opportunities to get involved in internet radio here in Austin. It should be possible to help out or perhaps even host a show that is not truther oriented.

Hit the streets. Find a friend or two and go door to door or stake out a good lit handout spot. From personal experience I can tell you that it is hard work, but it is also the most likely to have a positive impact in terms of swaying voters.

Good luck!

the opposite of a truther is a faker.... we got lots of truthers in our meetup... they act respectable. you guys make them out like some sort of lepers. this is America where people are allowed to have a difference of opinion, right? right?

The truthers are doing far more damage to Ron Paul than you can imagine. Pandering to them would only magnify that damage tenfold.

give me a break. you're here to create divisions. you admitted in your first post you won't even vote in the primary for RP. who do you support?

Note: Alex Jones belongs to the less credible band of truthers. These range from evidence-light shock jocks (Jones) to outright lunacy and even the government's own paid disinformation agents.

For serious 9/11 research go for STEVEN Jones, Michael Ruppert, David Griffin, Nafeez Ahmed, etc

Also: Many truthers are unfortunately deluded that 9/11 truth would help Ron's campaign. I remain convinced, based on Ron's involvement in the documentary in my sig, that he knows all about 9/11 truth.

Up in San Marcos (between Austin and San Antonio), about 65% of our active volunteers are truthers, and i'm the highest-ranking non-truther (Secretary of Tx State student organization, #2 in meetup group).

They arn't going away, as much as some of us might want them to. I asked, from the beginning, that they keep the two seperate, and 95% of the time they have. When I attended one of the meetings (to help me write and outline for a RP speech to the College Republicans), they where kind and non-provocative.

If you see someone mixing the two, then intervene. But don't act like they are the plauge, because they support Ron Paul just as much as you do.

There may be far more "Truthers" (what exactly is that supposed to mean anyway?) supporting Ron Paul without trying to advance their 911 cause than anyone knows. 'Cause... how would you know? Get my point? Criticizing the whole movement (in all its shades and degrees) because of what a few may have done is no more fair than the MSM's attempt to paint all Ron Paul supporters as "fringe" or rude because of the actions of a few.

In threads gone past, Americans who support Ron Paul but also choose to respect causes like http://www.patriotsquestion911.com/ or related questions have agreed to withhold 911 oriented postings in this forum, as the two causes should not be wed. It's only fair those who criticize fellow Americans for supporting such causes should do the same.

My first preference is Fred Thompson. If Ron Paul were not so wrong on his foreign policy he would be FAR and AWAY my first choice - it would not even be close.

I am NOT here to create divisions! I agree with Dr. Paul on nearly everything, but the truthers do not want the truth, they want to believe that America is evil and they have proven they will go to any length to give that impression. They are also usually pretty damn gullible.
