Ive noticed on alot of comments around the web that i keep seeing Aussies commenting..

Got me to thinking R. Murdoch is Aussie.. who better to get info from than people that grew up with his empire in their backyard.

Anyone want to share?

He isn't really an Australian anymore - he took US citizenship and I can't remember the last time he actually bothered to visit.

His son comes over on occasion, but that doesn't really count as he grew up in the US and has a strong accent.

He isn't the same polarizing figure as in the USA - he tends not to meddle in Australian politics as much and far fewer people subscribe to cable news, so it is harder to distort the message.

Still, he isn't exactly an admired individual. Anyone with even a passing interest in US politics realizes he is a dirtbag.

I guess Im just amazed that such a 'work of art' has been able to sway America in such a malicious way.

Murdoch likes to control governments because many years ago, heading his first newspaper in South Australia, Premier Sir Thomas Playford took him on and nearly bankrupted him. Since then he has been most wary.

No FoxNews in New Zealand, except between 3am and 5am because it is more entertaining than infomercials.

Seriously, anchors that can't spell Emu?

Americans crack me up.

Fox News, Cnbc, bloomberg, mtv etc. etc. lot of Us channels here on Foxtel (biggest cable provider)

Murdoch isnt really too much associated with Aus anymore, (I wish).

WHAT he does is, he has chats with the contenders Howard / Rudd and whoever gives him the best deals i.e Keep media laws very unrestrictive, and ownership limits low he then BACKS them and gets them the win.

It's totally fked up.

Rupert has a huge media influence here in OZ, as he has everywhere.

Aussies have the "tall poppy syndrome," as Australia was originally settled by convicts from "Mother Englands" overflowing prisons. There was also a huge Irish influence that molded the country.

We're egalitarian in nature due to our history.

I'm an American living in South Korea. I have many friends here who are Aussies and Kiwis. Both are super cool in my book. But Rupert Murdoch is a grade A asshole, not because of where he's from, but because he is a manipulative, underhanded, power hungry, jerk. He reflects poorly on the human race, not any one specific nation.
