August 2011: Ames Ronapalooza!

It would kick ass to have a huge concert in support of Ron Paul that would draw people to the Ames Straw poll in August.

If Ron Paul gets 10,000 people to vote for him there, he'll win.

A concert drawing in that many Iowa supporters would be awesome.

Three questions:
What time would be best for such a concert?

A. The night before.
B. The day of the vote during the day.
C. The night of the straw poll.
D. Other?

Who would bring in the biggest Ron Paul crowd?

From http://www.pastemagazine.com/high_gravity/2008/09/5-biggest-libertarian-musicians.html it shows these guys as libertarians:

A. Krist Novoselic (Nirvana bassist, supports Ron Paul)
B. Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day frontman, registered Libertarian)
C. Dwight Yoakam (Country star, supports libertarianism)
D. Robbie Fulks (Nashville songwriter, calls himself a libertarian)
E. Neil Peart (Rush's drummer, left-leaning libertarian)
F. Hank Williams Jr. (Country star, supported Rand Paul)
G. Other?

Location? Where should it be held?
A. Off site location close to the poll site.
B. At the Ames Straw poll site
C. Somewhere outside of Ames with plenty of space for a huge concert.
D. Other?

I think it could be a good idea.... I think the more volunteers we can get into Iowa over June, July, and August would be a good focus. maybe have at least one concert a Volunteer reward for anyone that puts in 20+ Hours on the ground or something.

Plus the usual"suspects": Marc, Amie, Jordan, etc. Maybe Penn & Teller know some?

Great ideas Elwar.

Got your message will get in touch with you tomorrow.

If they'll do it for free sure, but there is still a lot of expense that goes into something like this. As someone who puts on concerts for a living, and as the guy who was in charge of Rand's victory party, I can tell you this is not a cheap endeavor. This could EASILY be a $30k event.

The question to ask is: How much would an event like this help turn out votes, and could $30k be used in more effective ways to turn out votes (paying for people's lodging, or their travel, or their tickets, etc)???

We can't afford to go cheap on the Ames strawpoll. We should have entertainment, speakers, musicians, etc AND help with lodging, travel, tickets...EVERYTHING! We either do it big this year, or we should all stay home.

We need to win this. I plan on traveling to Iowa to help in August given Ron Paul runs. We need everyone!

Ron Paul won only 1 county in Iowa during the caucuses. The winner of the Ames straw poll wins theh Iowa caucuses about 4 out 5 times. It needs to be won. If Ron can win Iowa, he can win the other midwest and biblebelt states.

I am seriously considering attending the Ames straw poll.. It will be very important moving forward.. I hope the planning for this starts very soon..

I believe they enforce instate only rules as far as voting goes. I could be wrong. We have had this debate before, and I know their intention is to enforce instate only, but it's questionable how much enforcement they actually do.

If Steve Forbes can get 4,921 votes as he did when he lost to Bush, I don't see why Paul can't over perform esp if he does well at CPAC.

Out of staters can't vote, but we could certainly help with volunteer efforts and churning out the vote.

We need buses in place to bus all our supporters in just like Romneycare did.
