On January 18, 2012, Ron Paul posted to his Facebook:

"My campaign, and the entire freedom movement, would not be as strong as they are today without a free Internet, and that's just one of the reasons why the establishment hopes to censor it with SOPA and PIPA. I'm proud to see so many taking a stand today. Contact your representative and senators and tell them to oppose these disastrous bills."

That status update received 46k+ "likes" and 9400 "shares". His page was receiving over 1000 new "likes" per hour that day. It was a very important topic made public by heavy hitter like Google, Reddit, Wikipedia, etc.

Ron Paul needs to do the same thing regarding CISPA. He needs to take it on in his speeches and In Social Media. CISPA is bad news. Laws like these will affect us deeply and will affect the Liberty Movement.

A call to arms from Dr. Paul on this could be a momentum shifter. Once they grab hold of the internet we are all done for.
 
New Internet Censorship Bill: CISPA

Looks like Congress isn't done trying to censor the internet after all. After public outcry drew attention to the overreach of SOPA and PIPA, we thought we may be done with tone-deaf internet snooping bills. Nope.

H.R. 3523, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), sponsored by Mike (R-MI) and C.A. Ruppersberger (D-MD) would allow companies and the government to spy on your online activity with no real limits and no real liabilities.

If you guessed that whomever would be snooping through your emails and web purchase history would hide behind the excuse of "the need for cybersecurity so the terrorists don't get us", you'd be right.

As was the case with SOPA and PIPA, the wording of CISPA is vague enough for us to question if its proponents have ever actually used the internet. The government would be able to spy upon, block, or censor any online communication or activity deemed "disruptive" to the government or "private parties". That just begs for follow-up questions, no?

The Electronic Frontier Foundation is sponsoring a petition to kill CISPA. Not only should Congress be made aware that CISPA is an ill-concieved threat to the First Amendment, but Americans deserve that any internet legislation be crafted by lawmakers who know what the internet actually is. That is yet to happen, it would seem. It's 2012: this level of ignorance about the web is not acceptable in a member of Congress.

Network providers like Verison and AT&T, as well as Facebook, actually support CISPA though that may change if a SOPA-sized outcry ensues. Such companies support CISPA because the bill would tear down restrictions on how they share information.

CDT has an article on what would make for good cybersecurity legislation. These items are mostly missing from CISPA.

It worries me Intel and Microsoft are on this list... Since most of us use Windows (Course, I would recommend Linux...)

Conspiracy theories aside, WHY would they support this!? Like, what the hell is even their given reason!?

God damn it, my Rep is on that list and I'm supposed to be working with him to help me get a local position in town. Now I'm going to feel dirty....

Oh well. Machiavelli would call me crazy for even thinking it was wrong to use a pawn like him to get ahead due to his views.

This is a very real issue as well as a very real opportunity for the Paul campaign.
It is also a blazing example of why we need Paul in 2012, waiting could cost us dearly indeed.
 
This would pretty much be SOPA and PIPA. Any copyright infringement could be "dangerous to private parties", so just seize and monitor. Gah. Want to organize a boycott? Expect government monitoring. Want to develop a new tech? Big corporate players will beat you to the patent office. Argh.

I emailed you (Ben Swann), Doug Wead, Jack Hunter, and the Coalition's Social Media person. Wead emailed back and said it's a great idea. Hopefully, he'll relay the info to the Campaign.

That's a sick looking list. I guess many of them expect to profit at the expense of peoples' privacy.
 
This is all over twitter, and I tend to agree. I haven't actually read it yet, but the same people who were upset about SOPA are very upset about this.
